Was at the ELR for a ride behind 60009 today. The other train was being worked by D1501 which looked very impressive and definitely worth a mention. Love my two-tone green Brush 4's !!!

While a die hard steam man I have to agree. That picture just oozes BR circa 1965 even down to the correct livery for the time. Everything is just right for that era. To me this is what preservation is all about.

Thanks...loved them as a kid. My first sighting was quite memorable, a brand-new Crewe built D1551 through Carnforth on a test train to Penrith (and back). All the Crewe built Brush 4's did the same trip I think. We referred to those workings locally as 'the test diesel'...later examples came by in undercoat with their number chalked on the body side, but I'll never forget that shiny two-tone green paint. I was a bit miffed that the number wasn't in the then current combined volume!

recall reading a fault book of a Class 47 in Aberdeen during the 1960s and noting that within the previous week a fault had been reported in Dover and Inverness; yet for a "standard" class there seemed to be so many variants - including the Class 48.

Did D1501 bite the dust today? 45108 was on the diesel diagram.

I suppose it's a question of which era/year you would be trying to portray, the first blue/grey carriage I saw was repainted buffet car in a Manchester - Plymouth rake in July 1965 whilst on holiday a Dawlish Warren.
I suppose if we are saying Scotland it would be prototypical, but stretching it a bit for the English end of the ECML, unless you had an XP64 coach.
