be fitting though, if number 9's last mainline is on its old Scottish stomping grounds, deltic from London, handing over to 9 at Carnforth, for a run to Aberdeen, or Glasgow

Carnforth? On the WCML? Even if a Deltic is available in time, a more appropriate route would be ECML to Newcastle or Edinburgh and A4 from there, or forget London and just Glasgow QS to Aberdeen and back.

Unless 55022 is going to make a miraculous recovery, think it could be at least 6 months before we see a deltic on the mainline.

My feeling is a Edinburgh to Aberdeen express would be a fitting way to say goodbye to the elegant lady.

Never say never, 60009 isn't finished yet.

I think I might have asked this before, if I have I've forgotten, but why is there only one Springbok plate on one side of the loco ?

I think (and I'm quite happy to be proven wrong) it's something to do with a South African Newspaper Editor sponsoring it in the 1950's and there was only ever one made, There was a pair of Springboks fitted to the cab sides in the 1970's not sure what's happened to those though.

Number 9 from York, then via Newcastle & ECML to Edinburgh to make up for its failed appearance just before Christmas. My first ever A4, back in 1964 when it was doing its proper job. I'd like to see it just one last time and on its proper ground.

Wouldn't we all! No tail gunner either...

I keep checking the SRPS website for their 2020 tours but nothing showing as of yet - gutted that she was unhealthy for the return of the Christmas White Rose - was looking forward to travelling behind her coming into Kings Cross possibly for the last time and then taking her photograph like the celebrity she is "on the blocks".

Ho hum - i'll have to imagine and dream about it instead...

Apologies, I should have acknowledged this machine too. In my defence I've been distracted by Porta Papers and then someone raises the 152P question :). Though it is cheering that some few remember this design it leaves a series of unanswered questions.

Returning to the Clan, it will be interesting to see the results of testing both confirming an improvement over the originals and that the negative opinion voiced by some observers was ill founded.

Take a look at the auction catalogue entry. Mr C purchased it.

Seems to have taken about 20 mins out of the running schedule between Hellifield and Lostock Hall, now 86E at Preston, so let's say so far so good and touch wood it stays that way.
