Time table for the days when Scotsman is in action now available on MHR website:
    https://www.watercressline.co.uk/shopimages/FS feeder trains timetable.PNG

Note that the trains hauled by 60103 will only be going as far as the Meon loop where 60103 will run round the train.

The timetabling is interesting, first Alton train 8am, last train into Alton 18.55

Also it looks like 4 sets are in operation for those running days, it shall be a interesting intensive event.

The Standard service timetables for this year have been released with all bar service 1 being modified

Seems to be an error with the two train headings though

T'was a pleasant day atop the hill yesterday - though there was a biting wind! :(

An empty Bennett's greeted the early arrivals, as the freight rake was nowhere to be seen...... :Shifty:

So bang went the original plan to undertake some more TLC on said rake, but unperturbed, the hardy sole gathered made a start on various fronts - the maroon CCT, with the underfame continuing to receive attention - more wasted steel was cut out & replaced on the south side body - we think that's finally it for the sides - now there's just the wasted steel on the roof to replace - so much discussion was had as to the best way to tackle it.......

Elsewhere, the PWay were out & about with the Wickham & I'm sure I spotted someone giving the downside platform edging a whitewash....... though there was definitely a member of platform staff ducking in & out of the Goods Shed - thought he'd turned up a tad too early for 60103....... turns out he was awaiting the arrival of an Ed of a modelling mag, for a show & tell!

I popped down to Ropley later to see what was what whilst killing time before a meeting in the evening - more on that, when the time is right..... ;)

Our troublesome trucks were spotted safe & well alongside the boiler shop! :)

30925 was in light steam in readiness it would seem for a charter......

In the distance, it could be seen that folks were working on 50 027 in the up yard, though what they were up to wasn't obvious.

Elsewhere, 76017 was receiving some TLC ahead of the new running season & the Urie lads were hard at work on 499's boiler, though my Ropley Spy was nowhere to be seen & not for the 1st time either..... I think someone muttered that he'd proffered some lame excuse that a bit of tarmac was closed & that the world & his wife would be passing the bottom of his drive...... I reckon he just wanted to stay home & watch the Rugger!..... :Saywhat:

Blimey, I thought Western Lancer was scrapped in June 76. I didn't realise she'd been saved and given her TOPS number.
    BR Blue? or Maroon?

    Yikes!

It would appear that my 'spy' has been moved to remember to pen a few words to keep his avid reader abreast of all things Urie..... personally, I reckon someone used a cattle prod or something similar to kick start him into life!

Any way, enough of the jesting - but he is muttering something about the ULS being AWOL this weekend due to being up for an HRA award for the overhaul of 506 - the MHR are also included in this as it was a joint effort! :)

The words & pics below are his and not mine....... ;)

"We’re not yet out of January as I write this so I think it’s ok to wish everyone a happy New Year!

The ULS engineering team have certainly had a great time over the few months since my last report with the work on 499 moving at a much quicker pace than we expected…..Barry’s telling everyone ‘our tails are up’ and he’s not wrong!

Starting with boiler 799, all wasted stays have now been removed; no doubt more will be identified as wasted once a further inspection is carried out sometime after Scotsman has left. In the meantime work continues burning out the smokebox rivets from the tubeplate, we’re also separating the inner smokebox ring as we’ll be salvaging that. Inside the barrel the throatplate has been thoroughly cleaned to allow an inspection of previous BR welds; at the moment we’re not sure if a repair is required so await the input of the experts. All 8 palm stays have been removed as the threaded ends were broken and therefore in need of replacement.

The frames are where all our efforts have been focused, particularly helped by the relatively good weather (in other words, no snow!!). Both cylinder blocks are on and we only have a handful of fitted bolts left to drive in. The buffer beam support angles and gussets have been riveted to the frames, the buffer beam is fully riveted on along with a strengthening angle at the back and to finish off we have riveted a big lump which holds the draw hook in place behind the beam. Curved angles which take the fall of the running plate ahead of the blocks are also riveted to the frames. As mentioned previously the front platform was too far gone to salvage…particularly for a project which aims to have the end result looking as it did in 1920. The angles were also beyond saving so new sections were cut and riveted to the new plate work. Once complete, the shaped angle at the front was temporarily bolted to the buffer beam and the whole platform assembly lifted into place. Another couple of days on the rivet guns and we have something which is really beginning to look like a steam loco again. Most recently we’ve been test mounting the motion brackets; both are now temporarily bolted up on the frames whilst we drill 4 very awkward holes which can only be done with the brackets in situ. Once done (possibly this w/e) the brackets will be taken down for all swarf and detritus to be cleaned off before they are rehung for final fit with a mixture of rivets and fitted bolts.

Parallel to all this we have begun the mammoth job of collecting/finishing a vast array of castings and components. Both crossheads have been machined, the cylinder drain cocks are finished and the partly machined coupling rods and eccentrics are undergoing final machining. Various options are currently under investigation for new eccentric rods.

I don’t think anyone is clear how much we’ll get done whilst ‘Scotsman is with us, but come mid-March it’ll be the Flying Urie’s on site! It must by now be clear for all to see that our dream of 2020 won’t be achieved, but we’re really not that far away. 2022 is our revised target and by god we’re going for it…..if @Dunfanaghy Road would ease off on the tea pressure I’m sure we would be even quicker!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As ever, thanks to you all for your on-going support."

I have a question about the Scotsman operating days rover tickets. Have the MHR started sending these out yet? I booked 4 for 29th February but haven't received anything yet. The payment has been taken for £80. Anyone else got their rover tickets yet? Been checking my emails every day as the note on website says but the tickets for the 29th February have not appeared yet.
I received the tickets I booked for travelling behind Scotsman on 7th March a couple of weeks ago. I just thought I would ask on the forum before getting in contact with the MHR on Friday.

Panic over. All sorted this afternoon after getting in contact with the MHR and tickets safely arrived in my inbox. Original email last month never arrived for some reason.

Have the four Bulleid coaches arrived by rail from the Bluebell yet to help bolster the MHR fleet during the Scotsman events? Be interesting to see them on the ML if they haven't arrived yet.

I understand the timings are available to see if you look for them.

I wonder when the last time a Bulleid coach last moved on the main line?

Wouldn’t mind going out to photography this move from the Bluebell. Just wonder what 1st generation diesel traction would bring the coaches in and off the railway.

I have seen the timings for 60103. 60103 arrives at Alton very late at night. I will probably venture out to see Scotsman go over the bridge at the end of our road in Aldershot.

A nice class 33 plus four Bulleid coaches would get my vote.

Ah, so evidently wider knowledge than I thought :). I don’t know the timings, before anyone asks.

Presumably the loan is to strengthen the feeder trains. Out of interest, how many operational carriages does the MHR have, and how many does it need for the event?

I understand there’s possibly going to be two Bulleid coaches serviceable. So with any luck there should a rake of six Bulleid coaches which from memory will be the first time six Bulleid coaches have run together in preservation.
