West Somerset Railway would be closer I think - either way it won't happen!
When was the last time steam went up the bank at Exeter - was it when it had Tangmere at the front and Braunton at the back?

FTR passed successfully, in readiness for our first trip of the year tomorrow; the usual itinerary round the Surrey Hills.

Yes, I noticed the RTT page said it was a revised schedule for 8 February only.

Correct; we decided that the date was too close to the 18th April Norwich trip, and didn't want to abstract custom from that. I have said on here before : one full trip = happiness, two half-full trips = misery. With the eye-watering costs of main-line steam these days, neither MNLPS nor UKR can risk making a substantial loss.
We're looking at late Sept or mid-Oct as alternative dates, but resource availability is a major factor, so absolutely nothing is set in stone. If not, then Exeter will have to wait till next year. And for those who have asked, we are still looking at options for cheaper, shorter trips, but with regard to main-line steam "cheaper" is relative!!

I was planning a trip to London today and quite by accident and luck I realised I'd be able to see her at Victoria so waited to see her depart. Plenty of clag and a couple of wheelslips as she left up the bank.

I also realised that it was just over 22 years (out by a week or 2) that I stood on the same platform with my grandad getting some pictures of 35028 as we were about to board the Canterbury Belle, which was my first railtour. She's always been a favourite loco of mine.

Does anyone know why it lost 10 minutes between a minute early Shalford departure and Gomshall on dry rails (7 of which were between Shalford and Chilworth)?

It came to a dead stand for a few minutes just before Chilworth Station, I don't know the reason yet.

According to a video description on YouTube the platforms at Chilworth have been rebuilt and there is now a speed restriction through the station.

From Gomshall in sparkling weather. EDIT - this has posted as very blurry (original was pin-sharp) - will attempt a re-post. 2nd edit - removed blurry upload but now the site won't allow me to upload a replacement! It continues to be temperamental, to say the least.

If that is true, you would’ve thought that, being a regular steam route, safely gauging a steam loco (or at least a Bulleid) would’ve been taken into account when rebuilding.

It could be a problem for anything else, I think a Bulleid is fairly gauge friendly. Not very welcome when you have 600 tons behind the tender and want a run at Gomshall Bank either.

I think they are in the process of being rebuilt. Even network rail wouldn't build new ones out of gauge.

They managed to put a lineside cabinet too close at Brockenhurst.
