Tours are now up on the website to end of September and include : -

23/5 Kingscross to Cambridge and Harwich with 61306 , with 6 hours in Harwich, unless you also do the East Anglian Circular as well which would reduce it to 3 hours.

24/9 Kingscross to York, Durham and Newcastle - steam out ( 61264 according top the online brochure ) and diesel or electric on the return.

Note : - not all tours in the online brochure are on the website.

Wish they were more specific about where their circular tours are going.

This year's Windsor and Sunset Steam trips are now departing Victoria instead of Waterloo.

The Bavarian Christmas holiday tour seems to have bitten the dust.

It clashes with the RPSI's annual long weekend.

At least that gives a few seconds of real effort climbing to the main line at CJ!

Not what I meant. It just seems a little unfortunate that, of the few railtours that extend over more than a single day, two of them overlap.

But are they really in the same market? At £400 per main line steam day, five days spread over nine, the Moors and Mountains looks pricey even by GB 2020 standards. Mind you days 3 and 4 Torbay--Carmarthen--Shrewsbury does look attractive. I wonder if they do last minute standby part loads!

Unlikely, as there'll be a diesel on the back!

It may not shove for that short stretch - depends on the diesel driver's reflexes!

On the SD Facebook page, they have advertised a day trip and a short break for September.

Monday 14th Sep - Thursday 17th Mayflower 400 from Paddington to Devon and Cornwall, with 61306 and 1264.

Thursday 24th September London to Newcastle, with B1 1264.

Just have to wait and see whether they will be allowed to run.

What's the harm in planning? It's better than being defeatest and saying we give up.

I think you are being unduly pessimistic which knowing you surprises me. Even with a vaccine there will be some risk but there will be a time when we have to accept that and get on with life. I am not stuck at home locked down but getting out and trying to be as normal as possible but taking great care, even doing a limited amount of local shopping. My ultra cautious wife agrees with this approach.

Let's all look forward to the first mainline steam trip after lockdown. We could call it "The Reaper" - hauled by a Black 5, obviously.
    I'll get my coat . . .

The East Anglian Daily Times have reported that David Buck is looking to rename Mayflower to "Ipswich Town", by looking at the article, temporary.

"Mr Buck said: There was a class of locomotives named after football clubs, the B17s and they weren't very different from Mayflower.

There wasn't an Ipswich Town because it wasn't a league club in the 1930s (there was a Norwich City) but I had a nameplate made for my own collection.

"I'm now getting another made and I'm going to put them on Mayflower for a time."

Will certainly be interesting to see when tours return.
