It's a shame they're in Hampshire but have nowhere to run in or around the South Coast...noticeable absence of narrow gauge around these parts considering the rich military and industrial history of 2' 6" locally

    Good morning Chris,

These locos are not likely to run anywhere for a very long time unless substantial amounts of money are firstly, raised for purchase and then for a comprehensive restoration. They are very derelict and although relatively simple machines, there will be little of the original left when and if they are restored. Also, it is a fairly straightforward task to re-gauge these locos to 2'-0" gauge.

The condition of the locos may not frighten off the potential buyer who must have a locomotive at almost any cost. As an example, 2 of the OKs at Willenhall have found buyers and although mostly complete, are in many ways as rough as the Antigua Kerr Stuarts, caveat emptor indeed!!

The Antigua locos were acquired by a dealer and are at present, in the hands of a company that trades in such equipment, actual ownership of the locos is unclear. That they have ended up in Hampshire is really meaningless in the grand scheme of things.

As for 2'-6" gauge railways, yes, it is a pity that there are so few of this gauge given the number that there once were, not just in this country, but also across the Globe, many of which were owned or equipped by British companies.

    Cheers

    Alan

I appreciate that, was more of a general lament based on their current location, coincidental or otherwise

I don't suppose the Talyllyn needs any more locos, but presumably a Brasil class loco is a bit more powerful than a Tattoo? Maybe a source of a third loco for the Corris. perhaps, as well?

There's a certain Welsh tramway that will need locomotives in the future...

If/when Glyn Valley happens, I suspect they'll go there, or they'll be absorbed into the Statfold behemoth

I've no real feel for the size of the Brazil class - how would one fit in on the L & B, for example? Are they of a similar size and power rating to Isaac, which seems to be the next stage of growth there?

I'd be surprised if the L&B went for it. Axe and Isaac are the motive power for the foreseeable future, with Lyn arriving next year. Both of these will be more then capable of what is there with Pilton as a back up. If/when the line extends, those three will still be sufficient, along with the assumption that the Yeo project will start as soon as Lyn is finished.

Hello all, sorry for digging up this old thread but according to the rules this was the best course of action.

Is there any update on these engines. Is No 2 or 6 still for sale and if so does anyone have contact details for the selling company?

I certainly haven't heard of them being sold. I've PM'd a couple of phone numbers for you to try. Please let us know how you get on.

Thought I'd heard mention that one of them might be being acquired by a Corris supporter?

I think that would be Tattoo class KS 857, the one that arrived in UK Feb 2014.

Does anyone have any updates of the locos that were imported by Brian Gent (FMB Engineering) in 2013/4?

KS 857 / 1904 'Sir Neville Lubbock' supposedly went to a Corris railway supporter - is this confirmed and has anything more been heard about the loco? Is work in progress?
    KS 1098 / 1910 'Lena' - still for sale?
    KS 1313 / 1916 'Lucy' - still for sale?
    KS 3025 / 1917 'Edith' - still for sale?

    Thanks in advance

    Keith

Out of interest I wonder if the Tattoo class 857 being 2ft 6in gauge is inside framed? Technically it should be, as once they were over 2ft 3in they 'should' be. The Brazil class being bigger were all outside framed of course at 2ft 6in.
Has anyone seen this loco's remains/bag of rust?

But not always! I am sure I have read of at least one 2' 3" gauge example with outside frames...
