I am reliably informed by the chief engineer that it’s exactly the same shade - as it was paint matched to the last overhaul.

Perception is a difficult thing to shift.

I've seen it in the metal both before and since, it looked lighter up close.

The society is undertaking a re-varnishing of the locomotive.

I claim no specific credit or glory for this, having been away for a few weeks doing exams, but I was present at the lane today and enjoyed supporting my friends and colleagues in the society with preparation for this task.

I was pleased to see that we had new volunteers joining up today too - welcome Josh and Dan - and they did a great job helping us prepare the black areas of the locomotive.

I refute any suggestions of being an armchair member of the MNLPS. My computer chair will suffice when doing the accounts!

From the first photo above I assumed you were going for the Nine Elms 1967 look?

Well, I am sure she will be even more beautiful once you are all done - keep up the good work!

Might be historically appropriate at some point to send Clan Line out looking like total shyte with an assortment of tatty Mk1s behind it! However, I'm glad that this is no longer the norm, although I'd still take a rusty, filthy, clapped-out Bulleid over a 455 EMU any day!

You won’t see it like this again either.
I had the old Triang TT gauge model.
    Anyone remember it?

Are those tyres on the middle drivers within spec? Might be a bit iffy getting through the FTR in that state ...

    I doubt it.
Unboxed, I’d be lucky to get twenty quid for it on eBay.
Boxed, and in mint condition, (which it wasn’t after years of playing with it!) might be lucky to get £130 - £140.

Don't say that! They'll have a whip round, make you do it, then moan like hell until every locomotive everywhere is turned out in "authentic condition just like when we was lads"

I had a TT layout with four locos Clan line, Windsor Castle, an 0-6-0 jinty and a green diesel shunter four carriges plus two Kitmaster coaches and various wagons, sold it all for £30 to Bec models in Tooting Bec around 1980. Should have kept it :(

I have now revised our official price for a mucky Clan Line plus Bulleids to 100,000 for the loco and 1.5 million for the coaches (!!!) ;)

In all seriousness though - I love the fact we turn her out as best we can. We take great pride in her appearance, long may that always be the case.

Not doing so would probably cause cash flow problems for the makers of Autoglym and Duck Oil.
New members willing to get their hands dirty down at Stewart’s Lane always welcome.
