Sadly I have never been to Ilfracombe. My parents had their honeymoon there, but I wasn't conceived until a couple of months after that.

Good question. The boiler is back from Ian Riley and has been fitted into the frames. Not sure what is going to happen when the overhaul is finished if the line is not sorted for heavier locomotives again.

With no 'side' to the question, after this winter's works how many miles/years as planned is it before it can again take heavier trains on the section west of Norton(?).

    Thanks

    Patrick

P.S. I've been meaning to post this for info. Galling and fretting were mentioned in the context of the ORR discussions and weight restriction. An example came up on the SVR during rail relaying (but without the need for a weight restriction), see https://www.svrlive.com/blmar20

Sorry , to clarify my question . Given other groups / projects have been asked to move, (S&D/Auto 169) what now is the status of 6024 ? Has it been told/asked to leave ?

Isn't it a contract repair rather than an independent group at work?

Certainly Not. Overhaul is progressing well at MD with work being undertaken most weeks (I was volunteering on it all but 2 weeks ago). Plans for testing/running in are undecided. I'm sure you'll hear more once plans are concrete. Hope that answers your question!

Certainly is! Not the only positive news in terms of steam power on the WSR. 9351 has been fully repainted by 3 volunteers and is fit to run. 7828 is having similar treatment in areas. 7822 is soon to return. 53808's new valve heads in the process of machining and fitting. 7752 is receiving a new chimney at WN among other work. Finally, 4561's cylinder block is in the process of being machined. I'm sure I've forgotten other work that is being done in the department but its safe to say that plenty of hard work is being done. So all in all, a lot of good work being done by the staff and volunteers around the railway, many of whom I call my friend and I am very proud to be a part of. I'm sure they'd share the sentiment. Its safe to say we all cannot wait for the first trains a week on Saturday where we get to enjoy the rewards of all the winters hard work.

Thanks, this thread needs more posts like this, even better if they were with photographs.

I'm not sure even WSR board would want a legal dispute with 6024's effective owner.

I would echo Steve’s comments. His ‘pictures’ section is where most of us railway folk go for the daily railway ‘news’.

Steve’s service to the Railway and respectful approach to all is an example we could all - however so mighty - learn from.

Well said Robin. Steve Edge deserves a medal for his unstinting service that he has given to the wizzer over many years.

I see the government are looking at isolating the over 70's for up to 4 months. As the railway is reliant on volunteers and the volunteers are quite often over 70 year old I wonder how this will affect the ability of the railway to keep going?
I myself work on the frontline of the NHS and we are preparing for large numbers of people to be admitted in the near future.
This is not going to be unique to the WSR but the whole wider Heritage movement. Would you risk (or would your other half allow you to) getting the virus to enjoy your hobby?

Dark times ahead for the WSR I fear.

  20. The latest pictures on wsr.org.uk of TSO 4911 being repainted into BR Maroon at Minehead are interesting for the past liveries revealed by the rubbing down process. Along with Rail Blue there is some LNER green in evidence. Some will remember Sc4911 running in green and cream for a few months following its arrival at the Whizzer from main line service on the West Highland Line.
