I'm amazed by the amount of crap flying around in the jet wash - must have been a serious FOD risk!

Have seen Harriers operate quite happily off of grass. Loads of crud flying around during take off and landing - albeit on not quite the same scale as the coal yard - so obviously within design limits.

Indeed Ian - I've seen them use the grass at Old Warden in the dim and distant past, and I'm sure dust isn't particular an issue (as you say, they were designed to operate off piste like this), but there were other much larger bits and pieces flying around in some of the footage!

Twice at Old Warden and once at RAF Henlow off of grass.

A number of times operating on prepared planking pads then hiding up under cam nets in a forest.

PSP around but Class 30 and Class 60 in general.
We were familiar with working with Harriers but our main work was on Airfield Damage Repair.
