Why is it that when I attempt to on catch up on WSR Operations news I have to read through 95% of drivel before reaching any appropriate gen? I find it so frustrating and a waste of time <BJ>

Alrioght there moi luvver, where'd you get that to?

The size of letters on signs has in some places caused riots. It can be a massive issue in some places where there is contestation as to which state the place should be in, as to which language should come first and how big the letters should be.

You are right. Scheduled track works have been stopped. But trains may run at any time, as any railway person will understand. The message to the general public is simple: don't trespass on the line.

Yes, the WSR thread is well known for its innovative, well measured and intellectually stimulating discussions.

I believe there is a film to be made about it

    NFN.

Now having discussed tokens and language, who fancies a nice discussion about the history of the ground frames of the WSR?

You don't have to, do like I do and use the ignore button for the regular purveyors of drivel. Mind you they are getting more and more annoying, especially those that hop from thread to thread and spout crap.

Ok that’s good I didn’t know this . So it went up the road a bit further before turning right. It’s lucky there was room to make it go down the grass where it does now which make me wonder why the original route didn’t just go this way and went up the road instead?

Because this is Nat Pres and you have been here long enough to know that! ;) Thread drift is bound to increase somewhat, as we ALL need to get out more...but can't :(

    Now you're talking :) Pre or Post 1971 ?

To start with, this is the very first WSR one at Minehead, seen here on opening day from an arriving train....

    Hi there

Here is a map from 1900 of Porthmadog - you'll see that the line coming in from the north (the horse worked Croesor Tramway) simply goes to the north side of the harbour and takes a fairly direct route - the line to the Ffestiniog Railway came later (possibly when the WHR was opened in 1922?) and merely joined up with what was already there.
    Screenshot from 2020-04-22 12-50-43.jpg

If anyone is interested, and hasn't yet found it, there is currently a series of historic photos of the Ffestiniog being uploaded seemingly daily to the "insider" facebook page - no login required - https://www.facebook.com/pg/festrailinsider/posts/?ref=page_internal. Apologies (sort of) for continuing the thread drift...

Don't forget there was a third operation into Portmadoc (as it then was), entering the harbour from the north west ..... the Gorseddau Tramway, originally a 3ft gauge line.

Hold on ..... what thread is this?

That would explain the dual-gauge signage.

Good idea, Geoff. Maybe the first 50 words free then a £1 per word donation (rounded up please) towards the WSR Coronavirus Emergency Appeal? https://westsomersetrailway.digitickets.co.uk/category/27181 Thanks. Those unwilling to donate need not state again but are asked to reconsider ;)

The WSR Chairman only needs two words free, apparently. Sorry, Steve, not a chance while he continues on the present path.

If they are on ignore then even if they are posting in different threads you still won't be able to see their posts.

Knock yourself out and post something about the WSR then. No one is stopping anyone from posting things about the WSR. The volte face on 169 or maybe groundframes of the WSR.
