They don’t need to, apparently the virus is killed off by excess heat and it doesn’t come much hotter than a steam Loco footplate when it’s working hard!!

Yes, so it would appear Bob. There were moves booked for the following week but these were cancelled before they took place. It all happened so quickly.

    Cracking picture once again there.

My father was a schoolteacher, and he referred to his place of work as the "kid factory".

The virus will be killed off by *enough* heat, but bear in mind it lives perfectly happily in your body at 38degreesC/100 degreesF or so, so that whilst the fireman's shovel may be perfectly clear of virus particles the same isn't going to be true of the air you inhale if your mate has just breathed it out.

    There were three cancelled moves:

On 24/03, 45407 was booked to move from Bury to Carnforth (prior to moving to FW with 44871 and the Jacobite ecs) but the move was cancelled.

The same week, 'Flying Scotsman' was to have moved from Bury to York but that was cancelled, because the NRM had already shut down.

No.9 was to have moved from York to Bury on 01/04 but that was also cancelled, because the ELR was closed and couldn't accept it. It had been hoped to rearrange, prior to the expiry of its certification but that did not happen.

All three locos remain where they were.

Crawling over a Marine Boiler which has been steam raising for the last 48 hours to open the stops, nearly killed me, never mind any bugs I had

The ELR March loco roster is still displayed on ELR site, see http://www.eastlancsrailway.org.uk/plan-your-day-out/locomotive-roster.aspx.
It's possible that the last significant steam movement on ELR was the footplate experience on 17th March with newly-restored 51456 - really L&Y 0-6-0 Saddletank owned by Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Trust - photos displayed on lyrtrust.org.uk.
KWVR was also operating daily until the final day but only engineering trains in connection with renewal of bridge 11 south of Ingrow, which work was suspended as soon as possible.

Could be the final steam loco movement in GB in 2020. Or ever?

I may appear to be snobbish, but a picture in Steam Railway of a traction engine converted into loco; bears little comparison to, for example; David Buck’s B1!
