    Stained Glass Window

I have been contacted by someone who has saved the following window which was being thrown away from a public house by Weston super Mare train station. If anyone is interested in securing this for use on ESR, please pm me and i'll pass on the contact details.

I have made the ESR trustees aware of this generous offer.

    Many thanks.

    Hi Derek,

Thank you for the contact details (You do realise that you've posted your telephone number in a public forum. You may want to remove that).

I have passed your details to the owner of the window. She did not put her name in the body of her email, but the email address appears to be Laura something. Hopefully she will give you a ring shortly.

    regards
    Mark Dewell

I’ve edited the phone number out as you have passed the details on.

Glad to hear the stained glass window looks to be going to a good home, I was going to suggest asking the GWR Broadway group, something like that might have made a good feature in the refreshment room at Broadway. but if the ESR have a use for it, that's good.

I did think of GWSR, but thought I'd let the East & West Somerset guys have first dibs as it's more local to them. If someone from GWSR wants to pm me with their contact info I am happy to pass it along.

I thought post 85, by an ESR Trustee, said they were interested? Has that changed then?

AFAIK both ESR and WSR have said they are interested. I have passed on the supplied contact details to the vendor but not had any feedback as to progress. Happy to pass on any further contact details until such time as I have confirmation that the window is no longer available.

Yesterday we completed a series of staff re-assessments following the period of lock down to enable us to re-start running. See here for timetable and booking conditions: https://eastsomersetrailway.com/

4555 faces towards Cranmore (the same way that 5239 and 5637 faced)

Just wondering if anybody knows when 4555 will next be in service. Hoping to visit if shifts permit as it is a loco very dear to me having passed out for firing on it way back in July 1986.

Not sure at the moment, it's currently stopped for maintenance so 46447 is doing a lot of turns. When it isn't running it will most likely be visible in the shed.

The subject of weed control has recently been discussed on another thread. The attached photos show two contrasting images, taken last Sunday and showing the scene either side of the road bridge at the east end of Cranmore station. The bridge carries a notice indicating that it is owned by Network Rail, so I assume that ESR-owned track-bed starts immediately west of the bridge.

One photo shows the ESR Cranmore station site, apparently weed-free after the first few yards. The other photo shows the connecting line from Cranmore to Merehead and points east, with track invisible under prolific weed growth.

A passer-by commented that the connecting line had been tidied last year to allow passage of a visiting diesel loco.

Wow! Nature soon takes over again when allowed to do so. Here are a couple of views showing the clearence of the severly overgrown track that occured last year for the visiting diesel special, 16/3/19. mini_IMG_0219.JPG mini_IMG_0251 59201.JPG
