the entire railway, lock stock and barrel cash sale, seriously though, I hope the railway actually owned those items they did sell and they haven't sold items on loan to them, owned by a third party .

For those not familiar with road passenger transport licensing, operating companies hold licences from the Traffic Commisioner. If a company is sanctioned to the extent of losing an operating licence, the individuals such as directors and traffic managers may be separately dealt with. A phrase used in reports of inquiries is "loss of repute". If a company fails the individuals concerned may or may not lose repute, depending upon the Traffic Commisioner's opinion of fault/responsibility.

That's a very specific definition of vintage used within the car enthusiast community, though - and it was originally set in 1934! The Vintage Sports Car Club was founded partly as a reaction against the developments in mass production which were happening in the early 1930s, hence why the cutoff date has never moved in line with the age of vehicles. Incidentally Tom Rolt was a key early member of the Vintage Sports Car Club, which I suppose shouldn't be surprising.

It's strange really: you certainly wouldn't say today that a car from 2015 was vintage. I've seen enthusiasts describe cars and buses from the 70s or 80s as vintage, but I'd never describe them as such - if pushed, I'd say they were "early modern". Similarly, to my eyes, a 1950s DMU in green looks vintage, but a 1950s DMU and blue and grey doesn't. A 1970s bus definitely doesn't look vintage, and some 1970s trains - Class 313 for example - look positively modern.

It's buried deep in a reply to a comment replying to this post.

    The relevant entry is:

    "Allan Pyne
    Jonny Jjp
so I am lieing then. If that's the case, I do not like being called a liar, as a professional signal works tester, if I am being accused of lieing, then my (IRSE) Institute of railway signalling engineers licence means nothing, oh well that's another volunteer & professional railwayman gone from the WSR. Leaving with my head held high."

ITS Sad, but some people will blindly follow lemming style its only when the low loaders start removing te stock, and the scrap merchants are lifting the rails, will they realise they backed the wrong horse.

Having read some of the comments on there, I’m inclined to agree. Such as the one from someone who says he doesn’t understand why people are getting upset about 53808 going out ‘on loan’.

It does seem that if you like a heritage railway soap opera, currently the WSR is the gift that keeps on giving. It’s a shame to see, especially in public.

I read the Facebook stuff just now, and certain posts by one who cannot be named.

So the one who cannot be named questions Allan Pyne's statements on exactly what I posed yesterday evening as being unclear, and the one who cannot be named rebuffs Allan without providing any further information as to why Allan deserved this rebuff.

As to Foxcote Manor, whilst I respect what Martin Fuller has posted on here, it as a fact that last Autumn it was reported in the subsequent issue of the SDRT 'Pines Express' quarterly journal that the WSR PLC made noises at that time that they were not going to comply with the legal agreement to overhaul S&D loco '88'. At the same time the WSR PLC latest accounts omitted the provision for the loco's future legally binding repair 'costs'.

So, the timeline really goes back to last Autumn on all of this. Info Martin Fuller has might shed more light on all this.

    Cheers,
    Julian Atkins
