Out of interest, did you get an impression of how many passengers were in a carriage? Any 4s around tables for 4?

My footage of Royal Scot in action at Keynsham, Whiteball, Bruton and Freshford. As well as a quick opening shot near Kingswear. Enjoy.

Enjoyed that, well thought out and edited, proving once again that its worth spending time on processing etc, rather than getting on here ASAP

Thanks, I'm not surprised, the speed was just to good. I wonder about Whiteball, clearly the 47 wasn't pushing at the top (plenty of videos of that) but a pretty rapid acceleration out of Exeter: 20 mph through the station to 41.5 mph a Cowley Bridge and 57 mph at Stoke Canon. After that I'm pretty sure 46100 did all the work 63.5 through Hele & Bradninch, Max 64 in the easing at Tiverton.

The load: the train wasn't busy. No tables of 4 near us, but I think I saw parties of 4 with the 2 on the other side of the aisle empty, not 100 % sure as I didn't really move around the train.

Ok thanks but why isn’t it being used? The 47 costs more due to the need to use an extra crew plus fuel

Maybe because the diesel was required for shunting somewhere so no point in taking both.

Can’t answer that. But a theory; during Covid times a sit down is an absolute no for the time being. Being trapped inside coaches for hours at worst case scenario (not just four the railtour but for other services affected) might make the diesel a compliant feature of railtours for the time being.

Was told by someone who knows that in June the Generator Car was having work done and was out of commission, so for the foreseeable future the 47 has to be in the consist to power the Mk2s.

Call me a cynic but unless I’m wrong which I’m very welcome to be proved wrong I’m baffled why NR would open this rickety footbridge when there are obviously signs it’s blocked off . upload_2020-7-29_21-3-15.png

There's a footpath which leads to the footbridge and even though by the picture it looks rusty and has temporary fencing around it, I walked on it and it felt fine. Of course, NR will do work on it once the electrification project begins between Bath and Bristol.

....mmm. If that's the case the bridge could be there for quite a few years yet. ;) <BJ>
