The WSSRT has already told us why it doesn't want to merge, it values its independence for the projects that it does. Fine, there could have been a plce for them to carry on doing that, but rather than engage with the process and make sure that was the outcome they got, they chose to not take part at all. With their 10% Plc shareholding that wasn't really an option. So now they have something on their hands that they really don't like. So unless you actually know of another reason, please stop with the mysterio messages. It just looks silly.
And I really get frustrated with all this innuendo about a certain someone wanting to take charge. It's childish, and to me shows more about the motivations of those making the accusations then those it's aimed at. It also implies that they don't think the current chairman is exercising massive power grabs of his own, which is ludicrous.

From what I understand, the car driver recently approached the car owner about buying the car and was told to come back when they'd talked to the other people who use the car. The driver doesn't have the money anyway.

From what I understand, the car owner is rather hands off about who does the driving, but is concerned about the driver crashing the car.

The keys are what allows the car driver to be the car driver.

Reopening a line, especially one of the WSR's length, without the present operating licence and starting all over again, would take forever, in today's over-regulated environment. Back in the 1970s, it was quite a performance to jump through all the hoops. Much worse now. The Board needs to go, but losing the plc itself, with its operating licence, would be the end of the WSR.

Fortunately the car driver has forgotten that:-
    1. The car is out of petrol as he lost his wallet and could not pay at the pump
    2. He took the car in to be serviced, but - in a hurry to get to pub for dinner - took it back before the mechanic had tightened the nuts on all the wheels
    3. The automatic barriers to the pub car-park have gone on the blink and never open after it gets dark
    4. The local group of (WSR) Extinction Rebellion have blocked the roadway while they 'discuss' the situation with the local police, so are unlikely to go anywhere before next Spring.

There is a long history with the WSR in so far as what those connected with the line want, or are prepared to divulge what they want. There are always options to their choices, the principal ones being what are others prepared to accept. The undercurrent on the WSR, quite visible, even outside the magic 200 miles, often rises to the surface. Readers may like to reflect on the lines political history as well as that of the present.
Whatever is thought about a car and its owner, it rests solely on the owners permission being given. His permission seems unlikely to be given it seems.

[Unfortunately], this plays into the mindset which I feel is the WSR's fundamental problem - that [there] are, or can be, or should be, 'winners' and 'losers'. Everyone on the WSR'S mindset should be 'what's best for the whole WSR', not 'what's best for my faction'.

So, going all cloak and daggers is the answer? It doesn’t sound where I am sat to something conductive to reviving the fortunes of the WSR, in fact it suggests that there are certain quarters scared to give the elections a fair run, maybe the people standing are a minority - there is only one way to find out.

I also find your comment interesting that there is more to the trust not wanting to join forces. I imagine there is lots we don’t know, but, I would hope the trust members do know. If not why not and why is it hidden from them? We are back to cloak and daggers which is something I had hoped the WSR had moved on from after the WSRA situation something you were involved in IIRC, why the fear and suggestion of expelling them?

From what I read elsewhere the number standing represents 13% of the trust membership. If that is true then they do not need a huge number to gain a majority, if for example, 5% of the active membership here on Nat Pres joined and could vote and voted for the motion they would have the majority needed, that’s not a huge number but perhaps easy to see why you are here with the doom and gloom.

Do you think it would not be better for the trust to at least talk with these people rather than heading to code red?

PS - posted as a member of the forum with mods hat off.

Well the real cuckoo in the nest has reared their head again.

Always said there should have been a proper clear out should have happened the last time these issues raised their heads.

It's a power grab from someone frustrated they don't have JJPs job.

You might as well close the line permanently now save dragging it out for months and years, which this is going too.

Thankless you for confirming your official status. However, in view of your posting history, I do find your posts offer a sideways insight into “corporate” thinking. It is depressing to think that there are those with power and influence who think in that manner. IMHO it is that thinking that deserves to be expelled with prejudice, with or without the attached individuals.

I would disagree with you there, it is not so much buisiness more like a club where everyone needs to get on.

Thinking about my earlier posts, had the WSRS/WSSRT been able to use their influence together, it could have been done discretely in the past rather than in full view as it is now, it may well have been possible to avoid the current situation

You keep saying this but then have never provided motive, means or a road map to bring it about. Im sure jpp could come up with ways to get rid of any money he has rather easier.

I am no supporter of his, i wouldnt know him if i bumped into him; but the conspiracy theories trotted out on here do nothing to enhance some posters reputations.

A question for @Robin Moira White

What started at 14, but now is 9, and how long before they become 1? To lose 1 along the way can be "just one of those things", 2 is careless, but 5, come on

    Just asking

I expect the levels of vitriolic personal abuse will have had a part to play, some of it has been extremely unpleasant. Some folk may have concluded they don't need to put up with that.

    Also, source for numbers lost?

    So much bitterness.

I feel very sorry for the pigeons of Yeovil.

You know that there are others from NP among the 14, so why not ask them? Why this obsession with Robin Moira White?

Lovely to see that helpful, positive discussion is alive and well in the streets of Somerset.

I have some sympathy now for the present trustees of the Steam Trust. It is unclear whether they had a secret motive in sending out the AGM papers before the deadline for new nominations, or whether they merely blundered, but I am prepared to believe the latter. Either way, new nominations came in so they are now obliged to issue revised AGM papers; but even as they prepare to do so some of the new candidates suffer abuse (we are told) and are forced to withdraw. Whose names should now go on the AGM papers?

We can surmise (without evidence) that the PLC has stayed true to form and cancelled the cards (?) of those volunteers who have stuck their necks out -- even though there their manifesti state only that they are in favour of reform, which the PLC Board has also declared itself in favour of, at least in principle. Or has the abuse come from the Steam Trust incumbents? If so, is that because they fear (without cause) that a merger with the Association would prevent them or their successors from continuing to pursue the Trust's charitable objectives? Or are they just trying to cling on to power, as others in the WSR family certainly have done in the past and others again are accused of doing at present?

Over fifteen hundred pages on this thread, largely about the WSR's squabbles, and all (if I'm not mistaken) since an earlier thread on the same subject was locked.

Is there a word for something that is worse than SNAFU? (It would be useful in other contexts, notably the present state of UK politics.)

The stuff I've seen has come from those who blindly follow the current Plc board.
