Three years from approval of funding to completion for an £850K project, that's fast?

The "It's too soon/foolish to reopen/haven't you seen the news" brigade vs the "well if you can run trains under these circumstances over Christmas why not over the summer when everyone else was managing?" brigade.

My eye was more caught by the very tattered tarps; water getting in freely is just going to accelerate the decay. Tarps don't cost much; what's the point of laying out a considerable sum in storage if one's not going to do the best one easily can to conserve them while they wait for attention?
Maybe at Norton Fitz, especially since apparently the rent's coming from the WSRA anyway?

I gather a lot of the NF triangle area is flood zone or something, so permission to erect a building might be a problem; but an open shed (more than enough for protection) might be acceptable - but then we're back to the money problem.

the official explanation , informed sources suggest is being a little economical and maybe glosses over a more protracted implementation. The impression I get is that this work should and could have been done in prior budget years .

Given the council I believe are funding and Network Rail designed and built the crossing it does beg the question of why it isn't installed and had Covid never happened how would the WSR have reopened this spring

If you are just a few years old at the moment then maybe you stand a chance, but then you wouldn't have been able to post your message, so maybe not.... :) We can all live in hope though, I certainly do!!!

There's one question that view - which I sort of accept - doesn't address. Could Minehead station have been operated normally had Covid not happened?

"Platform" is clear that it couldn't be, and links that constraint to the decision not to reopen this year for normal services to Minehead. Yet the timings set out in "Platform" suggest that the gates would have required flagmen on the crossing whether or not Covid had happened. That leaves me confused as to whether the WSR could have operated in 2020 at all even without Covid. The opposite must surely also be true - if it could have operated, the state of the gates is largely irrelevant to whether the railway could have operated during lockdown.

No, not that one, I've been banned from that one! :) West Somerset Railway Friends is, as far as I know, still the "main" WSR Facebook group, even though group admins have changed recently.

Genuine question... Accountants, bankers etc, anyone got any idea?
Would they be able to get rid of any of them if, as we have seen, there are charges against them (all?) either as security against the bank loan or to the WSRA (2 off) as security for the £90k plus 'loan' ?
If they did sell them off would the bank have first call on the money as the amount of security for the loan has been reduced?

I'd be surprised if there were any charges against any of those carriages. They are all GWR carriages owned by the WSSRT, and nothing to do with the Plc.

That's funny they have NOT activated my request to join and yet I am on the other one!

It could only happen in Somerset or am I perceived as being a plc man?!!!!

A vintage set can be a real asset to any line and you only have to look at those lines with them . It is also possible to systematically restore vehicles and you only have to look at the work at Bewdley which has a production line of restorations and overhauls and currently feature GWR Bow Enders 6045 and 5043

the one thing I would urge is covered accommodation as sadly the vehicles deteriorate quickly especially when the vehicles are stood out in all weathers

I'd say it's just as much pro-Plc as the other group, you just don't get banned quite so quickly for questioning whether it's really appropriate to wish certain volunteers were banished from the railway for ever more, just for having the temerity to stand as trustees of an affiliate organisation...
