    35018 got away but I overtook it coming into Low Bentham and it couldn’t keep its feet so what it’ll do at High Bentham I don’t know.

    Not unusual. That stretch of line is a notorious "dead zone" for RTT info. It WILL magically appear at Settle Junction before too long. (Says he hopefully with coat, hat and gloves ready to don to go out and see her later on!).

    You first ask how it is that a train can take five hours to cross the country from west to east, albeit steam and with pick up and water stops. Then you spot that over an hour has been made up and the chances are that it'll be right time into Scarborough. That feels to me like recovery time, big time, but also the past experience of a little used route in the 'damp and slippery' season.
