I'm generally against banning or ejecting people (on here, or on a line); that wasn't what I was alluding to with "a terrible choice to make as to how to react").

Well, it's very flattering, but ...

I think anyone wishing to help would have to consider first of all whether they consider that there was a shared willingness to engage in an open reform process without preconceptions across all the interested parties; and to what degree they felt individuals were prepared to stand aside if that was for the greater good of the railway. With those conditions, anything is possible; without them I suspect anyone taking it on would find many new and baroque ways to define the term poisoned chalice.

Close - Bristol built thousands of buses of many types, I own one :).

and it would be very convenient for the plc if the WSSRT AGM was deferred until after their own!

All this can be easily short circuited via the 10 of the WSSRT standing for election and getting elected to the WSSRT board.

This is, in my opinion, the best way at the moment. It gives the SDRT a sliver of a hope without expensive Court proceedings.

And control of the WSSRT shareholding so divesting at a stroke the complacency of the current WSR plc board, and to my mind resolves governance issues quite easily.

Why others don't see the logic of this such as John Bailey and others , I don't understand.

and if, by the time of the 2021 Plc AGM, the new charity was in place and those 10% shareholdings were just so much waste paper.

I have a nasty suspicion that someone somewhere may be pleased to see the WSSRT AGM delayed until after the Plc AGM. Then, should the new candidates succeed in being elected, they could not work with the WSRA using the combined shareholding to hold the Plc to account - for this year at least?

Edit: @Triumph 2500S got there before me :(

Time enough has passed for the new proxy forms to be printed and sent out (After all it didn't take long for the Chairman's excuses letter to be delivered)
Note to WSSRT Board:- Suggestions have already been made to the CC that this is solely an internal matter to be decided by the members (as the CC always prefer such things to be done) and that requests for CC guidance are un necessary and believed to be simply an excuse for the undemocratic delaying the proceedings.

I think they see the logic - It's more likely they fear the outcome...

I re-read today a report of the WSR PLC EGM of 1976. (It is in the SDRT archive of it's reports, and you have to be an SDRT member to access same).

It doesn't make for good reading. Allan Garaway was brought in from the FR to chair the meeting as an outsider! Mr D. Fear, MD, was apparently taken ill during the meeting and he had Solicitors attending on his behalf which the WSR PLC had to pay for subsequently. He resigned then didn't resign etc. The accounts were not approved then were approved after a poll and delay over the Directors Report.

That was 44 years ago. Not a lot has changed!

(For SDRT members the report is in bulletin 76)

It seems to me that it is a sad comment on someone who was until recently a member of the PLC board that it should come to this

I suggest that given a potential 'Pro PLC' structure has been proposed suddenly its tune has changed

It seems that the attitude of the PLC Board depends on whether those on the board will gain or lose from the reforms.

The cynical might think that the PLC Board are more concerned about holding onto power above and beyond any other considerations.

and how did you deduce that then?

or are you saying ALL shareholdings in the plc will be 'just so much waste paper'?

Fair point. We have almost lost count of the number of times when comments have been made on here that trample over or close to Forum Rules in relation to personal accusations about individuals rather than commenting on the actions that are taken by individuals. We don't know whether some of this is deliberate to ensure that the thread is locked to shut down legitimate discussion but it's not something that can be ignored.

Quite a lot is going on in and around the WSR that is causing concern, and has caused concern. We do not want even tempered discussion to be lost but it seems many people need to be reminded of the rules on here. Clearly passions are running high and one way of trying to keep things on the level, and fair, is to, reluctantly, name people who are making things difficult, not by what they are saying but by the tone and the undercurrent of any personal attacks.

That is why @rodders154 was named. As at the time of this message, his account has not been deleted and he is welcome to continue posting but must of course, in common with everyone else, post within Forum Rules. Every member is personally responsible for what they say on this and all threads. They are also responsible for removing or amending content about which they may have second thoughts.

Apologies for the length of this message but a reasonable question was asked and it deserved what I hope is seen as a reasonable answer.
