Post 32671 mentioned 'estoppel' and Walsh v Lonsdale (1880). I have no idea how significant those may be, but I think no-one had mentioned them previously, so that was not old ground.

Are they rings of trees on the far hillside - or the walls of the stockades of opposing factions..?:D

I thought they weren't paying any rent for Blue Anchor in 2019 to 2021. Discounted in lieu of improvement works they were doing to the building...

True, but there are a distressing number of posters to this thread who seem to have missed prior posts, and ask questions that were previously answered, etc. Then again, it's a bit hard to fault them: keeping up with this thread is often almost a full-time job.

Is this another reason for no trains running. Snowdrifts? :D

Well I get the impression the atmosphere in Somerset is pretty frosty at the moment...

Frosty, ? I would put the atmosphere at closer to sub zero, , in some cases hell would freeze over before some of the waring factions call a cease fire .

Thank you for a considered reply to my rather pointed message.

I do think it's possible to raise quite large sums from the wider heritage community; numerous other lines, loco recreations, etc have done so. The WSR admittedly needs large sums for infrastructure, sums it apparently can't raise from operations (as most apparently cannot, with the notable exception of the Dartmouth), or from local supporters. The potential connection seems obvious to me.

Taken from the WSR News Archive for 1997:

[Sat 09-Aug-97] The EWS stone trains from Westbury to Minehead and return empties were suspended from July 25 for a six week break during the summer peak holiday season. Services have normally run daily Monday to Friday, with some additional weekend services when required. For a short period in late April early May two trains have run daily. On July 10, steam came to rescue of Class 37 no 37713 which stalled on the reverse curves of the 1 in 80 Crowcombe Bank at Combe Florey and was unable to restart its 25 wagon 1,200 ton train. Prairie tank no 4160 waiting at Williton with the 4.45pm passenger train from Minehead was detached from its train and proceeded light engine to attach to the front of the Class 37. The combined tractive effort was sufficient to restart the stone train which 4160 piloted as far as Williton. Several instances of double heading of EWS diesels and WSR steam engines on regular passenger trains have occurred in order to save paths when the EWS workings were unbalanced. On 30 June EWS 37707 was returned inside 4160 on the 12.10pm Minehead-Bishops Lydeard to save a path.

Now this really seems like a fun game to lighten the mood, who wants to kick off identifying the crimes and culprits on the WSR :Pompus:

Mystery game on the WSR's social media pages
    [IMG]
Over the next couple of weeks the WSR will be offering social media followers the opportunity to get involved in a mystery game involving 'Brunel K Beagle' and some strange characters from across the Railway. All details can be found on the West Somerset Railway's Facebook page - see below for link.

The game will revolve around a 'make believe crime' that has been committed at Minehead Station. Each day our followers will be introduced to the suspects and the evidence, which will help you piece together the clues. Your job is to help Brunel find out who the culprit is!

I did think that was asking for trouble! Comments about lorry trailers are presumably not welcome...

Good points, but I think the S&DRT have thrown in the towel, so this is a dead duck. But it is worth remembering how badly the plc has behaved towards the S&DRT, and they are just as likely to treat others in similar fashion.
