Did 45596 go via Guildford and Ash for a particular reason?

    To turn as MHR request?
To turn ready for the trip home?
Or to avoid going via Pirbright Jn and Ash Vale for some reason or another?

As you can't on the MHR, A turn will be required somewhere on NR. And I assume they want minimum milage tender first. A turn at Guildford at night is easy, A turn at Guildford 07:00 - 09:30 not so. Boiler first out of the MHR is an easy run, most if not all the way home.

main line engines tend to run via Guildford to turn the loco, so that the return run is made smokebox first, running direct via Woking. Running tender first during the day time from Alton to Guildford might be problematical with pathing etc, a late night run tender first, after the busy period, would have more slots available to path a 45 mph restricted tender first run.

A picture of it passing my local station at Leighton Buzzard at 6.45 last night. It required a sprint over the footbridge to get it, the reason for that is in the other platform. When did a Jubilee last get this far down the WCML?

    Approaching Lancaster 25 early.

As an aside, this may have been working for some time but I've only recently used it, Railcam has a Follow Headcode setting, which follows the head code you set keeping it in view, this should be very useful when traversing complex routes. See attached screen shot.

The interest in mainline steam is absolutely crazy at the moment, I have touched upon how much interest (compared to previously) there has been in the runs along the Furness line and today the Lancaster local social media pages are awash with people getting out to see 60103.

Just out of interest what is being done at Carnforth that cannot be done at Bury?
