Have been looking at climbs of 5XPs from Ormside to Ais Gill. This one with 12 was in 29 min 55 sec. Whilst Galatea has done better with 11 - e.g. 27 min on 16/9/15 with Mick Kelly, Saturday's return was a very competent performance. We talk about 'the extra coach' making all the difference on a charter from the point of view of turning a profit in non-Covid times but it definitely made a difference to the performance at the weekend.

Having now seen this loco 'in the flesh' it looks beautiful in green, in my view. West Coast have made an excellent job of the make-over.

Perhaps people on this forum who often have a pop at David Smith and Carnforth should look at this photograph and reflect on their criticism

I didn't know a broken driving wheel had been replaced. Was that more recently than when Didcot got a new wheel for their King, which was considered a big deal at the time?

I don't think it was a broken wheel.
More like a derailment in Woodham's yard and getting the cutting torch out was easier than lugging jacks and packing.

It was a derailment as per 6023, not sure of the timeline but OTTOMH 6023's was done first (1994-95), not sure when the Saints new wheels were cast though?

Wonderful photo Alan, the best of yours I've seen.

Welcome back to the North after all the strange months we have had so far.

And so pleased that you share our delight in our new pride and joy.
