I'd rank them like that too, but the request was to avoid suggesting preferences!

How about the Top-downers (the Plc and supporters) and the Bottom-uppers (the WSSRT 10 and supporters), or TDs and BUs. No ranking there.

Unfortunately, there are also those who want to be like Sir William McAlpine and be boss of their own private steam railway.

Not only fortunate to own his own railway, the late Sir William was a director of quite a few heritage railway and shipping concerns.

As a starter why dont the various boards indicate who they are not able to work with & why?

Are you sure? All of the WSR groups do seem to be on more than nodding terms with those of the legal profession! :D

    Am I bad or what!!

It seems to me either say who you cant work with and why or put up with them.

I’ve said this before but Sir Bill was rather liked by those who were fortunate enough to cross paths with him.

I would concur. I found him to be personable, generous and respectful of knowledge and experience. Valuable qualities.

Yes, but the difference to this is he built his own from scratch and put it in his (rather large) back garden.

I have no idea what the current protagonists are like as people, but as far as Sir Bill was concerned, he was as Robin and Matt say an all round "good bloke".

There are some who would argue(!) that it's not the *number* of posts that is important but the *length* of them.

I'm just wondering if a maximum word limit could be applied to this thread. Butthensomewouldtrytogetroundit!

Well quite, there are some people who appear to get where he got to without any of the hard work or expenditure, as if they inherited Sir Bill's railway.

  20. Saturday 17th October 1970

50 years ago today since I first crossed paths with 53808. The occasion was Bristol Bath Road open day and the engine was breaking her journey en route from Woodham's Yard to Radstock. Two other steam locos were present, 4555 being one of them.

We departed BTM that evening aboard a Portsmouth bound train behind Hymek D7000. The doyen '35' failed just after departure and within sight of the station. Our Thunderbird D7100 subsequently hauled the train to destination with its dead classmate in the consist. So ended a brilliant day out.
