Video any good? Sharpo was at Kidderminster yesterday.

Gratuitous plug - Paul donates all the advertising revenue from his YouTube channel to the SVR, so keep watching his videos and help the railway.

Couple of pics from me. Very enjoyable day and felt very safe as per previous visit in August. Apparently 1450's first and last appearance this year as it is being withdrawn for overhaul.
Both locos performed brilliantly, with some lively running when paired. The last trip back to Kidderminster with 7714 solo was magical, with the light fading and the stations lamp lit, closest to gala atmosphere I will manage this year unfortunately! The SVR makes an appearance in the popular new Netflix movie "Enola Holmes," with Victoria Bridge and Arley Station being used. Arley is the setting for the awkward reunion between Enola Holmes (Millie Bobby Brown) and her 2 older brothers, Mycroft Holmes (Sam Claflin) and Sherlock Holmes (Henry Cavill), after she summons them from London to investigate their mother's (Helena Bonham Carter) disappearance on Enola's 16th birthday. A GWR 2-8-0 and a set of immaculate GWR Edwardian coaches form the train used.

The use of the SVR in films never seems to happen often enough, so it is always a delight to see it appear on screen, and especially in something as popular as this film has become.

    Lovely pics.

There was a boiler ticket extension granted last year for 1450 with a limited number of steamings (28 rings a bell), but Covid put a stop to the services 1450 (and 813) would normally run. I did wonder whether 1450 would have paired with another loco on one of the other services but I guess that's not to be.

7714 and 813 will be running the last Wanderer service on the 23rd. Incidentally, the GWR 813 Fund has said they've a £25k shortfall this year with loss of steaming fees and income from sales stands.

There's gossip of one more run planned, a special private charter for the owner.

Any news on an extended stay? From what my Dad says the owner’s happy to keep it there, and it seems to be rather popular with the public and staff, not bad considering it only came for a gala visit in 2013!

I too have heard the owner’s happy with it there but I don't know, I'm afraid. Personally, I like it being on the line.

For the first time this year, 2020, GWR 813 was steamed for a BBC production at Kidderminster on Friday 16th of October 2020.

IMG_20201018_111105.jpg IMG_20201018_123751.jpg IMG_20201018_151439.jpg A few from me, from yesterday. Another very enjoyable day and probably my last visit to the SVR for a while by looks of things.
The class 40 sounded excellent and it was my first time of seeing a diesel using the water crane! Must admit, the heat was pretty ineffective, but that may have more to do with the number of windows open in the front coach!

Is the extended Saturday night runs to Bridgnorth being repeated in November?

All on the website. Usual caveats apply. Neither Sunset specials to Bridgnorth nor diesel 'The Pioneer' services run inm November (last are 24th and 23rd October respectively).

Sunday 1st November Flyer and Adventurer
Monday 2nd November Flyer and Adventurer
Saturday 7th November Flyer and Adventurer plus Evening dining
Sunday 8th November Flyer and Adventurer
Saturday 14th November Flyer and Adventurer plus Evening dining
Sunday 15th November Flyer and Adventurer
Saturday 21st November Flyer and Adventurer plus Evening dining
Sunday 22nd November Flyer and Adventurer

Flyer and Adventurer both steam. Evening diner is Kidder-Highley only with a meal at The Engine House

From Friday 27th November is only Steam in Lights and Christmas services

The Severn Valley Railway has taken delivery of more than one mile of track that was removed as part of the Wednesbury to Brierley Hill Metro extension. The track was donated by Transport for West Midlands and the Midland Metro Alliance.

(with a tip of the hat to Paul Jackson on the SVR unofficial forum. I haven't seen anything on official channels)

    Was it scrap track?
    Or can it be reused?

No idea! The article talks about use in the annual relaying so I guess it's for reuse, though I know some Bridgnorth yard needs some relaying too. I've added it to the articles list for the next newsletters (1st November) and will ask questions if nothing comes out before then.

Asking because we recently were given a quantity of track that had come from a NWR relay site.
The rail was cut into 6m lengths for machine handling of short panels. No use for anything other than a few closure rails and the remainder scrap.
Financial benefit yes, but then you need to discount the handling costs and stripping of the sleepers that are scrap.
