The Brake Van looks superb! You and the team are doing a great job and it will be good, when the Railway will be able to have a proper "Goods Galore" event, to showcase all the wagons.

That brake van is looking pretty impressive after that repaint ! Would it be possible to take a photo of where the air pipes go below the solebar of the air piped brakevan ? I have a OO version that is going to be bodged to be air piped but i can't work out where the pipes go once they go underneath the solebar !

Gareth, I shall draw you a route diagram its pretty simple, the main reservoir pipe goes from headstock to headstock with a tee piece branching off this goes to a gauge and is the smallest of the 3 pipes above the solebar. The main train pipe goes from headstock then turns and is the first of the 3 pipes above sole bar entering the cabin into an emergency brake valve and then back out of the cabin to the other headstock.

    Thank you Phil

You're description has helped clear up how the system works in my mind, but a picture would be the icing on the cake as unsurprisingly there aren't mny photos out there as I cant imainge that there's many out there who want to see the underside of a brake van ! I take it the brakevan doesn't have a air cylinder /reservoir either ?

    Hi Gareth,
The brakevan does not have a air reservoir or air brake cylinder. It does retain its vacuum brake cylinder.

Hi. Just wondering if you had seen the enquiry here about a Tube wagon also on the GCR and sounding like assistance needed? https://national-preservation.com/threads/m336550.1418451/

    A
s it’s the same railway I would think you will know about it, but just in case not ....

Highlighting to you given the apparent rarity and historical significance. And the speed with which you dealt with the recently acquired “yellow” van and containers.

    Keep up the good work!

Hello, we are aware of this vehicle and have had disscussions with its owner
Unfortunatly, we do not have the facilities to carryout the structural repares required for this vehicle. We have two other tubes in our collection, one is of LNER origin, along with the other 90+ vehicles we are responsible for.
Our apparent quickness is down to carefull selection of what can realistically be acheived in a given timeframe, unfortunatly the tube requires more involved work that we could not justifiably support or give the required time too.

Yes, no complaints about that from me. The question was asked but the answer as above was not unexpected. As Mattie Bee says, the LMS Tube has some particular issues which put it firmly in the “not a quick win” pile.

A plan is emerging, but we shall see.

i am mightly impressed with the work a small group at quorn have achieved on numerous wagons plus the coach well done all, wagons are often neglected but you guys have shown what can be achieved by a small team The MHR wagon restorers have worked miracles as well.

If you want a "theatrical van", should you not be looking for one of the Southern Railway scenery vans (which IIRC had tethering points for elephants in them).

A surprising amount of caselaw relating to animals being wild or otherwise relates to elephants running amok in goods yards.

Somebody looking for a bogie scenery van ?
We have one for sale at Llangollen which belongs to one of our loco groups. They have now decided that it's easier to store heavy loco parts in a container. It has been completely re-planked and is watertight.

Pleased to see you managed to locate a shorter trailer for going behind the Scarab - the other one just looks too long when attached to it.
You'll have to aquire a Bedford TK or a Karrier tractor unit to pull that around.........
