Fifty-five years separate the two photographs. The top image I took in July 1965 when 45212 relieved 72007 with 1M32, a Glasgow-Morecambe working. Time flies, believe me...

Does anyone know the reason for the headboard? I assume some kind of in-joke about electrical resistance.

For the record, I wouldn't be totally opposed to the outsourcing of our railways to the Borg. At the very least you'd get some sort of coherent overall vision of how everything should work.

Hard to judge, but if I had been asked to estimate the speed, I'd not have put it as over 60. IMHO when a train passes through a platform it always seems faster than it is due to it's proximity to the platform edge.

I wonder if this move is still going ahead as it has just been announced that West Yorkshire is going into Tier 3 lockdown restrictions on Monday 2nd November. Not sure how it works with people going into a restricted area from a very distant location.

I can’t see it’s an issue, the support crew will be returning home to tier three areas. As for the WC crew, I believe transport workers are exempt

Isn't almost everything on NatPres controversial for some people?

The Borg would also enact the rail operators' dream - annihilation of all passengers, allowing a smooth-running operation!
