It seems that what we are coming back to again and again is decades(?) of poor management of the WSR, with matter coming to a head now.

The question is how can this be addressed?

Well if "Heritage" is to mean anything, (not just on the WSR) this is the sort of thing that ought to be happening as it has in several places elsewhere. At least one vehicle has been restored to use which was withdrawn prior to Grouping and there are a number that were out of service by 1930.

No nothing was done. After the consultation stage nothing was heard of it again. On the site the WSRA put up 'the plastic palace' a big temporary workshop and some portacabins all of which are easy to remove plus a large water tower from Reading (I think) was dumped on the site after being donated which is something that could be restored and built into the redevelopment as an asset.

The present temporary workshop was a WSR plc initiative, not WSRA.

Well, there IS a vision of a Railway run by consensus for its communities through appropriate structures by those of obvious and undoubted ability who want requisite qualities to be seen to be present and who value and encourage a variety of experience.

Shouldn’t be difficult, really. Who else shares that vision?

MY vision is to see the above from Station House, to stroll down to Stogumber station for the occasional train and, occasionally to pull a few signal levers, pass on the railway lore, and perhaps do an occasional R/O turn during one of the year’s excellent Galas.

The way the heritage sector has blossoned over the past half century, a few words have come to be next to meaningless, with "never" being fairly high on any list of 'em.

Even if currently active generations aren't best positioned address something, it doesn't follow the same will remain true of those yet to come. It strikes me that the key requirement right now is the best secure storage which can be arranged.

If you had seen BCK 6705 in 2005 in the US you might have said ‘never’.

    But there again...
... probably best not to write off former Scranton, PA residents too quickly.

I think this is a very good comment wider than the WSR - if the first generation secured our lines for the future, the second has built them up to have a greater degree of momentum, lets hope the current operation undercover type schemes cropping up on many railways succeed in building on the legacy.

Just had following drop into my in-box:

....'The Somerset and Dorset Railway Trust (S&DRT), Mid Hants Railway Preservation Society (MHRPS) and the Mid Hants Railway Ltd (MHR) are pleased to announce that they are in detailed discussions regarding the relocation of rolling stock and artefacts belonging to the S&DRT from Washford on the West Somerset Railway to the Watercress Line in Hampshire'...

We nearly got to 24 hours between posts on here. I was seriously wondering if peace had broken out in Somerset.

So, it does look then, that the S&D Trust are moving out, So ending a 40 year presence at Washford let this be a sober warning to those who fall out with the management of the PLC, Your past activity means nothing,

Well, look what can happen where reasonable people decide to work together.

When will the overinflated egos and power hungry ever learn...?

" when will the overinflated Ego's and power hungry ever learn"? Never it would seem, until people say enough, and vote them out nothing will change, If the New WSSRT trustees are not to the PLC's liking they too might find themselves homeless.

I wonder when we will learn what's happening to the fixtures at Washford.

Sickening to the core - as crazily forced stupidity by the plc board, as are the actions of the 10 personally - both are yet another blight on the WSR - when will this all STOP?

A puzzling statement. As, unlike the chicken and the egg, in this case it isnt hard to work out which came first.

Or are you suggesting we should have sat on our hands and done nothing?

    Robin,

The question is what have you achieved in assisting the SDRT over Washford?

Where in your great plan for the WSSRT do you factor in that the WSSRT is just as vulnerable to the same WSR Plc board Chairman's fits of pique as the SDRT at Washford has been?

The WSSRT has no lease for BA or BL and is at the mercy of the WSR plc board if it upsets it.

No where in any of your election blurb have you ever addressed any of these issues.
