It'll probably be the only Christmas activity on the Wretched Somerset Railway.

Oh I don't know, I suspect most Police Officers and Fire Service Officers will understand and have similar senses of humour (gallows humour)

You can add Railwaymen to that. (And doctors and nurses, too, I suspect.)

The S&D south of Shillingstone is closer to Alresford.

Why are there now two S&D "Threads"?
Shouldn't discussions concerning the S&D movements be confined to the S&D evection thread?

This is the advanced Euclidean geometry thread: “If you draw a non-straight line between Bath and Bournemouth, will part of that line approach more closely to a non-straight line between Alton and Alresford, or one between Minehead and Bishops lydeard? Please show your workings, or failing that, please show your plan for returning your toys to your pram.”

But is distance or journey time the more relevant metric? To make calculations easier, might I suggest any TSRs lasting under 5 years be discounted?

As I understand they are using hotels as "Nightingdale Courts" then Minehead would be ideal. Take over the Premier Inn, plus you have Morrisons and McDonalds for take out meals. Job done!

Have seen it many times while playing Arkers in the scramble mess but that has nothing to do with any heritage railway.

Do you mean ‘Uckers’ or Ludo as it is known to the non-military slice of the population?

You can’t call it Ludo! Ruddy hell I had 3 ex Navy guys have their own board in the pub, if I was bored I’d ask them how their game of Ludo was going then get a 10 minute lecture of ‘it’s not Ludo’ ;)

I worked with a guy who was explaining about this complex navy game, that us dim-witted square-bashers might think was a lot like ludo. Apparently it is a point of pride to make your own board, and pieces, consequently all brooms on board HM ships have handles about two feet long. You are also likely to make your own dice. Strangely double-sixes are not at all rare in the navy.

The real shame (I understand) is to have to have your name recorded on the back of a board for a particularly egregious loss...
