In that case, s'pose we should just be thankful there was never a class 36 diesel! ;)

Now there's an idea. A class 36 diesel that outwardly looks like a Leader. A couple of re-wheeled six wheel bogies, a suitable power unit and lots of thin metal and there you have it.
    OK, I'm not being serious.....

This is why I am always at pains to point out that TOPS-numbered diesel locomotives always had a space between the class number and the identifier. I wish people would do this more when referring to diesels on here. See avatar for details!

Though to be fair, 10000 the diesel didn't have a space in its number!

With the power unit offset to one side and several tonnes of ballast on the other side?

    It's not a TOPS number.
To round this off, though, it's only right and proper to point out that within TOPS itself all numbers are space free, and so are all outputs, including Class 89 and 98.

But it was LMS 10000, not LNER 10000. Other conflicts are available.

Interesting to note that the BTC reserved 10000 upwards for diesels and 20000 upwards for electrics at the time.

Given most of the classic survivors down our way were so disfigured, there has to be a pretty strong case for saying that "3" at least ensured their survival.

Well, they are not strictly numbers!

(I did check if Excel had "Bulleidian" in the available number formats for a cell, but not yet. Maybe it's on the product backlog for a later version ...)
