    Evening All,

In October, 2003, I went on a trip to the HSB where I took miles of video tape footage. I'm now in the process of digitalising this footage and breaking it down into bite-sized instalments; the first part is now on my new YouTube channel and if you'd like to have a look, it's here:

    Hope it's of interest.

At about 13 mins, is that the site of the Süd Harz bridge after Stiege?

No, it can't be. We haven't got to Stiege yet. Part one is from Wernigerode to somewhere south of Eland. There's no further footage on that day, so the light must have faded by the time we got to Nordhausen. There are shots at Stiege in the instalments still to come, so you can look out for that bridge in due course when I get those shots edited and on YouTube. Watch this space...

The NWE line crossed under the Sud Harz south of Elend between km 34.3 and km34.4 and one of the stone bridge abutments can still be seen on the east or Tanne side of the HSB line. Immediately south of the bridge was the site of the old Sorge station which was an interchange between the two railways. After the border re-opened the road was widened and realigned and nothing remains at the site of the old station which was parallel to and on the north side of the current road just before the level crossing. In 1974, long after the SHE had been abandoned, a new HSB Sorge station was opened about 1km further south and closer to the village. The station building at Sorge houses a small but very interesting "Grenz" museum where you can get a walking guide to the nearby restored border fences, watchtowers etc. Thanks for posting the videos.
    Cheers,
    Ray.

Thanks for the info. Ray. I'll try and have a look next time I'm there - whenever that might be!

Thank you for jogging my grey cell. You're quite right.
(If I was still working I could have asked a Salisbury Panel signaller, something of an expert on Harz and Südharz.)

99 6001 is hauling the older transporter wagons. It's the diesel on the newer rollbock bogies. 99 6001's a nice little engine whatever it's got behind it.

Nor am I! They're almost historic in their own right by now though.

True. They could be avoided though if you asked HSB staff what was planned to be steam.

I was very lucky, as the timing was quite by accident, to be in the area in June 1984 on the day the new connection of the two Harz networks was officially opened. Here is the train wearing a suitably homemade headboard! Plenty of locals on board and watching from the lineside. I had been in the area the previous year when tracklaying was taking place near Strassberg.

    Morning All,

Part Three of this video is now on YouTube. It takes us from Eisfelder Talmühle to Drei Annen Hohne in a special train hauled by a vintage diesel railcar. From Drei Annen Hohne we take the Brocken line behind one of the 0-4-4-0 Mallet Tanks. This video ends at Goetheweg, but will be continued...

    Hope you like it.

I put part four of my 2003 video on YouTube earlier today. It covers the section of the Brocken line from Goetheweg to the summit and then back to Goetheweg behind 0-4-4-0 Mallet Tank 99 5901.

    Here's the link:

    Hope its of interest.

    Afternoon All,

If anyone would like have a look, part six of my 2003 HSB video is now on YouTube. Taken on the Sunday, it shows a special train on the Selketalbhn. This was, initially, double headed by Mallet 0-4-4-0T 99 5901 and 0-6-0T 99 6101, but the Mallet came off at Eisfelder Talmühle leaving the 0-6-0T to do the honours for the rest of the day. However, this did enable a parallel departure from Eisfelder Talmühle which we were able to film and photograph where the two lines diverge.

    Hope it's of interest:

    Ron.

    Evening All,

The final part of my 2003 video shot on a trip to the HSB is now on my YouTube channel. It features 0-6-0T 99 6101 on the Selketalbahn so I hope you'll like it:
