That doesn't solve the mystery of the missing Mentions tab on the Infrastructure page, though.

Doesn't work for me either - I wonder if you have to be subscribed to the group to see that specific feature in the Facebook UI. I suspect in any case it will get wider visibility now it is on Steve Edge’s site.

It’s possibly different versions of Facebook, not every user is migrated at once and it’s quite possible that while one user may of been updated others haven’t.

On the basis of '1472''s post I also looked at his link on Facebook this morning and had the same problem, but the 7th February posts were illuminating as were those of rails being unloaded at Minehead prior to the above date.

On another aspect of all this, one must wonder what the rail replacement fund/appeal has been spent on? I receive detailed reports from the Bluebell on their track work replacement.

More reasons why FB should not be considered the best and only place to post your information...

Surprised they are only using FB and not copying to Steve's wsr.org.uk

I think it was the day of the bomb scare, all movement stopped for a good few hours. I asked one of senior management why it wasn't on their web page and the retort was ' we put it on Facebook'. Excuse me? Say for arguments sake I'm at Doniford, dodgy reception, manage to get the internet eventually where am I going to be looking for information? Certainly not FB!

Quite. Mind you, could have been worse, he might have said Twitter :)

I suspect in part that it's quicker and easier for someone to post on FB in a hurry than it is to get whoever manages their website to post on there. Of course, there is always that strange thing called the telephone.....

For me, that's where social media comes into its own, and I think it absolutely reasonable that it would appear there. Although if I was on the railway I wouldn't expect to find out about it on the Internet at all, I'd expect to be told and updated by a member of staff.

Just be cause you don't doesn't mean everyone else doesn't - I would check the traffic on the FB page vs the Website.

Also, If there is, eg, a bomb scare, you get the information to as many people as possible as quickly as possible, not wait until it's perfectly available, not least as the information may change and need frequent updating - much easier on FB/Twitter.

If anything big goes off, the mobile phone network tends to crash as everyone phones everyone else to talk about it, and the fixed-line system is very much 1:1 so a very inefficient means of distributing information

It was well known in the Forces that if you wanted information as widespread as possible in the shortest possible time you told the station barber or the cleaner....and for true Cold War warriors, the bloke who ran the bratty stall outside the main gate.

Fair comment about social media, and the statistics for use of each, but as we've seen about the WSR infrastructure, social media also has it's weaknesses, so shouldn't be regarded as a sole source - and Facebook (moreso than Twitter) can be actively unhelpful to those who aren't registered, especially if using it from a mobile. Of course, one also has to wonder how many people would be trapped at Doniford
