The Barclay is (or was) listed on Ebay as well. Pretty sure there was a choice of two, though only ones shown on WNXX. Not sure if that's because the other is sold or because it's the better of the two!!

Fair enough. Just wondered, the railway seems to sell a lot of stock off but I've never seen much of it advertised via the usual channels!

That is because the majority of the items sold recently are privately owned.

It does kind of make you wonder what Railway Retreats were doing buying it in the first place. Were they planning to string hammocks in the cab? :)

Wasn't the sale an "either/or" with the remaining loco becoming a static display item? Harry aka Chemicals at least has the better chance of being restored.

Hollow out the boiler and tanks, bit of insulation... 'glamping' I think it's called these days?

When people advertise “serious offers only”, how much would they be looking for with regards to the 31 class, the Barclay 040 and the LMS sleeper coach? Hardly anything has a price, or minimum offer next to it in any of the adverts so unless you are embedded within the heritage world it is difficult to judge what a realistic offer would be. Any ideas?

Look up the weight, multiply it by the scrap value of steel , Subtract the haulage cost to the nearest scrapyard, add 10 - 15%

That’s a decent formula for unrestored items but if it is something that is in part or fully restored condition then you have to factor in how much the current owner will want to recover of the money that has already been spent on it, unless they are desperate for a quick sale. Plus there is rarity and items that are sought after and thus attract a premium of sorts.

An item is ultimately only worth the maximum that someone is willing to pay for it.

Pity. I used to work that unit when I was a volunteer there.

Is this the one that they bought the Irish Thumper to provide spares for?
