After a long time a tweaking and getting things right .
Our little Y1 final ventured out of the yard and undertook it first line trip in over 20 years.

During the run it was found that a few more tweeks are needed . Before its declared fit for service.

Spot the @Steve in one of the photos.

I'm the good looking one. The steam coming out of the cab door is from a stuck steam brake drain valve; not as bad as it looks and one for the snagging list, along with several more.

Too true. And the snagging list never seems to get smaller. You sort out one problem and another raises its head. Its 12 months since the boiler passed its 'out of frames' steam test although it was actually in the frames with everything in place but without any boiler cladding. Everything then had to be dismantled to fit that and nothing seemed to go back without a problem. The gauge glass fittings took five attempts before they became leak free under steam when first time around there was no problem. Covid hasn't helped, either, as priority has had to be given to other things.

Looks good - better than the last time I saw it at Middleton doing a good impression of a garden shed in the car park!

Out of interest, what's the plate on the cabside? LNER no. 59? It's visible on a few photos of LNER Sentinels over the years, but not clear enough to make out.

It is usually the Sentinel Waggon Works crest which features an armoured knight with a list of patent numbers underneath....IIRC.

Lovely to see a small engine restored, rather than the usual 'big stuff'.

A big thumbs-up from here and hearty congratulations to all involved.

That's visible in older photos, but 68153 doesn't have it at present.

It is indeed a 59 plate. This was its original LNER number. Need to put the (replica) works plates back on. The originals were removed at Darlington in 1961.

The little Y1 will be out and about hauling passenger trains the weekend of the 23rd and 24th of October. This will probably be your only chance this year to ride behind the locomotive.
N.E.R 1310 will also be in action over both days. Making it a North Eastern weekend.
Trains are likely to be double headed and top and tailed during the weekend

It's ace that this little loco is back in steam. Any chance of a Gala featuring this, Lucie & Cockerill 2525 from the Mid-Suffolk Railway?

Passenger trains will now be operating on the passenger line to Park Holt and also down the Balm Road Branch. This weekend with the Y1 and N.E.R H class. Probably the last chance to see and ride behind 1310 down the branch line.
