We're booked on this and the tickets arrived last week.

We checked with the office to see if there were any problems likely due to the various changes re tiered status etc and received this reply:
You need have no concerns as it’s a circular tour so you will not
be alighting and all seating follows social distancing guidelines
Any indication of which LSL steamer is likely to come on at Crewe?

Circular Tour true; but still a bit weird Peter as unless things have changed, Birmingham Int., Wolverhampton and Stafford are all in Tier 3, so the train will be picking up passengers from Very High Alert Areas. Love to know how Saphos intend to make sure no-one infected but showing little in the way of symptoms or asymptomatic folk will board the train.

Did seriously think about filming this but with Cumbria in tier two and Copy Pit being tier three I could’ve justify it as an essential journey especially as the Police are checking cars going into Yorkshire at various points . Will have to make do with the local video men and still chaps :)

I'm afraid this is the principal reason why I won't be travelling with Saphos any time soon.

You are wise to stay safe in the relative safety of Tier 2 Cumbria with all the benefits that brings. We in Tier 3 fall asleep dreaming of being in Tier 2 with scotch eggs and alcoholic drinks as far as the eye can see . . .

Steve, I admire your restraint but the whole thing is a nonsense including this train. Anyway, in a weeks time you will be legally allowed to travel anywhere in the UK, although you still legally can In England, you're just not advised to do so. If people personally think driving out of your tier to stand in a field and film a train is putting yourself and others at risk I feel for your sanity and suggest to stop watching or listening to the news.

I do not feel Steve is showing restraint, I feel he is showing responsibility and a caring attitude towards others. Yes you are correct about being allowed as the government are not prepared to use the words forbidden or not permitted and prefer the term "advice". (Post Christmas I am sure will show the futility of that strategy).
However if you are proposing to drive from Birmingham to chase this train, as much as I enjoy watching your videos I believe that is a poor decision. It is not just "standing in a field" though is it. There will be a need for petrol, toilet breaks etc, which brings you into contact with others in the general public and I suspect there will other enthusiasts who do not want to follow the advice. In no way could this be classed as an essential journey.
Of course as was mentioned in post #3 how come this is running anyway?

Absolutely nothing to do with listening to the news just being sensible and not breaking rules hence the virus is still spreading and I can bet whichever field I stood in some clown would want to stand next to me and talk rubbish. Can see the Coppers face now as I try and explain I’m doing essential travel to film a Steam tour just as he’s writing out my fine :(

Do what our esteemed leader says and make up your own mind. But don't expect everyone to necessarily agree with you or do the same thing. After all, this is the most disruptive state of affairs in our lifetime so we all have masses of experience to draw on in making our minds up. And I gather that the last thing we should do is take any notice of expert advice as what do they know?...:)

(That's no criticism of you at all just in case my words can be misunderstood.)

I have no intention of stopping for fuel (full tank at the ready) or stopping for a break and to eat(packed lunch prepared) and as regards to a toilet stop that can be done in secluded spot in the middle of Sodsville. I'm out on my own pursuing my hobbie and feel I'm not putting anyone at risk. I expect no one will tell PSOV he shouldn't be going as it's his job and his business. At the end of day this is just my opinion and many will share it and many will not. I see they've allowed Gyms to reopen in tier three area's so to keep people's mental health in tact, I feel pursuing your hobbie should be put in the same bracket as it can only benefit your mental health by doing what you love and not consistently living like a hermit.

Just stay safe and keep Social Distancing. It's the other idiots we have to worry about as much as ourselves.

There seems to be some confusion.

Railway Herald advised last night that train is cancelled but at 08:00 this morning Class 47 47712 / 805 are on way with ecs to Birmingham International. That presumes that steam traction will come on at Crewe as planned (46100 ?) and water stop at Burnley where passengers will doubtless detrain to photograph and mingle.

The confusion is mine !! Train is not shown as cancelled AND 46100 is shown as train locomotive so lineside visit is now to be made.

There certainly does. According to the Railway Herald I am looking at, the loco is 34046 and the water stop is at Blackburn.
