    Evening All,

In October, 1994, 60009 UNION OF SOUTH AFRICA made it's first trip out of London's King's Cross station and travelled up the East Coast Main Line to Peterborough; here it reversed and ran onto the Nene Valley Railway via the Fletton Loop which links the NVR to the main line. This was the first time that a special train had run onto the Nene Valley from the outside world. The A4 did a further run on the NVR before retuning to King's Cross in the evening.

I was there with my video camera and my footage from that day is now on my YouTube channel; as well as the A4 there is also footage of 7819 HINTON MANOR which was visiting the NVR at the time. Here's the link if anyone would like to have a look:

    Hope it's of interest.

The transfer is of excellent quality, it has to be said - well done!

Of visiting tours, or this "Deltic Fenman" in particular? I remember that one well - I took time out of revising for my 'O' levels to go and photograph it with my friends Andy and Mark. Beautiful sunny day, too.

Ah! I'd forgotten about the Deltics. Diesels don't stick in my mind in the way that steam locos do. Am I right that that was the occasion when 60009 made its first trip out of The Cross since the 1960s? Was this the first steam out of KX as well as being No.9's first trip in preservation? And was it also the steam charter train to use the Fletton Loop?

After 60009 left the NVR it had to run round the train at Peterborough before setting off on the run south. This gave me time to nip down to Huntington to see it go through there:

    Another fine transfer, Ron :)

I can't wait for that giant concrete excrescence that formerly carried the A604/A14 to disappear from the northern end of Huntingdon station.

I don't live in that area now, so don't know the current position. The new bit of the A14 makes it all a bit different though from what I'm told.

The nice bit about the new roads in Huntingdon is that one pays tribute to a former company - there's an Edison Bell Way now. Edison Bell made records and gramophones in the early part of the 20th century, you could say Acoustical/Quad were their successors in the town.

    Afternoon All,

I recently added another vintage video taken in my volunteering days on the NVR to YouTube. This is the link if anyone would like to have a look:

That Kriegslok looked good on the continental stock. A pity it left the railway but the owner found out that buying a loco is the easy bit. Funding an overhaul is the hard bit.

Oostmalle, Belgium. There was a spare boiler with the loco as well, but it seems like 7173's "original" boiler is being used on 26.101, who's boiler is now on 7173.

Apparently the loco and spare boiler were up for sale for £35,000. Admittedly that was 10+ years ago, but that was an absolute bargain.
