Due to appreciable snowfall, alterations to today's services have occurred. Hopefully, the snow will clear for the next few days.

Just to confirm, the SVR is planning to run tomorrow. If anyone is visiting, do take care as plenty of snow/ice about in places.

As a result of the increased restriction, the SVR has suspended services till further notice. Worcestershire, Shropshire and Herefordshire are now Tier 3, while Birimingham and the Black Country is Tier 4 so not really feasible to run.

John Hill died on 14 January. Amongst many other things, he had the honour of driving the first passenger train out of Bridgnorth in 1967. The SVR is preparing an obituary outlining his considerable volunteer input to SVR.

    RIP.

He was also (before my time, so I never knew him) something of a leading light in Bluebell circles - I believe he was our traffic manager for a number of years. There is a photo doing the rounds of him, chainsaw in hand, clearing up on the day after the great storm of 1987.

    His daughter on FB:
Thank you all for your lovely comments, my Dad was a wonderful man and clearly very respected by many and I miss him terribly already.
Can I ask if anyone has any photos of my Dad that they wouldn't mind sharing with me I'd be very grateful.
My email address is [I'll message you] many thanks to you all

If you could pass the word round Bluebell circles I think the family would appreciate it

    Thanks

    Patrick

It doesn’t feel right to ‘like’ that post Patrick, he was someone I knew of but didn’t know personally but I know how much of a huge contribution he made to the SVR and its operations especially during the early days.

I was actually a founder member of the SVR Matt. My friend and I joined in 1965. Arley was just a dream. Hampton Loade was our aim at that time.
Spent many weekends clearing vegetation between Bridgnorth and HL.
One of the highlights was the arrival of Collett 0-6-0 No. 3205, our first locomotive.
Left when Gerald Nabarro took over. Disagreed with his plans for the line. (WSR Anyone?).
His unfortunate death changed everything of course.
I now regard it as the premier Heritage Line.
    A bit biased of course;).

Where the SVR leads others follow ;) I certainly won’t disagree with what you say about the SVR being the premier line.
I may have mentioned this before, but it could have been so much different had my mother mown down Sir Gerald on a pump trolly all those years ago!
