As I recall didn't Heritage Railway Magazine get caught out by the replicas, thinking 5972 had been sold?

I wonder if the company that made them could knock up a couple of A4's too, I know of a couple that could be swapped for fibreglass ones probably without anyone noticing...

Somewhere between my memory playing tricks and autocorrect playing tricks I suspect… probably a bit of both.

I know what you are saying, but you missed the point of my point. How many HARRY POTTER fans would notice that? I'm not talking about us, with our railway knowledge. I am talking about 8 year old girls, with a souvenir Sorting Hat on (that is five sizes too big), whose sole knowledge of the Hogwarts Express is that it is red.....

I'm Glad that there is a plan for her in the future.

I'm also surprised that there has not been more of an uptake in the steam railway community to monetise on the success of the Harry Potter, I'm aware that there will be big issues like the whole Thomas debacle with copyright infringement but as mentioned above, A "BR RED" loco carrying some sort of name would surely be close enough for most kids to believe it was the Hogsfarts express.

Am I the only one wondering if a Red Hall may end up based at Mallaig for Wizards and Witches trips?

I think there's a fair amount of it. A couple of years back I took my eldest daughter on the ELR's "As Near As We Can Get to Harry Potter Without The Lawyers Getting Involved"* day, and I'd be surprised if other railways hadn't put together a similar offer. Seems to me that if one railway finds something that pulls in the casual punters, others pay close attention.

Also, it was a steam engine, that was enough for her. The fact it was black rather than red didn't even register.

*obviously that isn't the name they used.

In my experience, most of them are closer to 28 year old women with souvenir Sorting Hats and plastic wands (oo er).

The HP studio attraction is well worth a visit. I guarantee you will come out with enormous respect for the film making art, regardless of your interest in the actual HP franchise.
Olton Hall is doing a marvellous job there, probably a more effective way of getting lots of people up close to a real steam locomotive than many, and of course perhaps people who wouldn't visit a heritage railway.
I know more than one not-so-small-anymore person whose interest in steam started with seeing Hogwarts Castle in the films.
Of course we're all just speculating, but if having another Hogwarts Castle in operation is the plan, it would be a great way of piquing more people's interest.

I think you'll find the Warner's contract with WCRC may preclude a lot of commercial activity without Warner Bros consent; I understand - for example - that on main line workings 5972 was NOT allowed to run with Hogwarts Castle nameplates without Warner Bros permission and any moves in connection with filming were to be treated as per Royal Train movements.

I think that was the case. The loco would run with her regular Olton Hall nameplates when not on filming duties (Although a bit of searching brought up the loco occasionally carrying the Hogwarts Express headboard as well as a Wizard Express one). Wasn't there an exception when the GWSR was given permission to run the loco with the Hogwarts Castle nameplates during a visit by the loco?

As for a Hall going to Mallaig, I'd say that was a bit of a stretch. Didn't 5972 not venture much further along the route than Glenfinnan due to gauging?

It seems I was mistaken. Still a bit surprised the loco made it that far though.

I recall seeing photos of it at Banavie with angle grinders being used to cut stuff back on the platform, I think Railway Mag made a big fuss of it being the furthest west a Hall had ever gone to Arasaig.
