You know, if I were cynical I'd almost think it a deliberate attempt to derail a serious discussion about accommodating the S&DRT at the MHR.

I think it is possible to continue the serious conversation as well. It has been hugely amusing to read this thread this evening

Not strictly true, as I was rather puzzled as to why track construction related postings were being made on the "Mountsorrel" thread until I noticed that a post was missing from the numerical sequence....

    Indeed.

Way back in the day, 499 was mouldering in a wooded area at the bufferstop behind the er, troublesome trucks, was this part of the headshunt sold to the school or is it still part of the railway? I seem to vaguely recall that it seemed to be a bit down from the rest of the sidings.

I have a feeling, there was a bit of land beyond the buffer stops to the boundary marker this was the bit sold, i dont think the buffers or even the track has been touched since acquired from BR. It was just a narrow strip as i recall,

Has someone been smoking the grass cuttings from the school in Alresford?

It's been known to happen elsewhere of course. The SVR used to have (and probably still does have) the "Bodfish Trophy", presented to anyone who managed to get nearer to Ironbridge than the Hollybush Road buffer stops at Bridgnorth.

For all the discussion the die with regard to the S&D trust is cast and an immediate future away from the WSR. For now the MHR is doing much to make the welcome and that is always to be applauded , I hope for the group that a long term solution can be found

Could someone remind me if the other WSR groups (WSRA, WSRRT and DEPG as the main ones) stood alongside their long resident friends ?

No they didn't. They just 'noted' what was happening.

No, they were all too busy fighting their own little wars, Like Sidmouth, i wish the S&D Trust every blessing for a good future, where ever that may be , At least the MHR, has laid out the welcome mat for them, and lets hope, no matter what the eventual outcome, close ties remain between the MHR and the S&D Trust.

I am a little curious about what people might think is happening. The Watercress Line view is certainly that we welcome the SDRT for the long term and I know that is their view also. Not every item currently at Washford will move to Hampshire, but the bulk will.

Yeap and made a right mess of several wagons that took the impact, , I don't know the full details, but wasn't it a shunting incident, the coach was left uncoupled, and the driver thought it was coupled to the rake, he, went to shunt the rake, and the coach ran away, of course, once rolling, its not going to stop and was signalled into the otherwise empty siding to minimise the potential damage .

Is it still in the Railwaymans? There are some notable names on there, I believe the West Somerset had its own runaway involving a Class 14 a few years ago.

It's getting a long way off topic (but God knows this thread has delved some odd areas of late) but you've got to feel for anyone involved in an incident like that. It's three miles from Ropley to Alresford; even with an unchecked vehicle, that is going to take many minutes - quite a long time to bonder the significance of the fact that you have committed some almighty foul up but not know the final consequence.

The story was told in full on this forum about 5 years ago by the person who put the BCK in its fatal position, I’m not going to repeat it here but a search would bring up the details for anyone interested in the incident although I will say that there was more than the BCK in the siding and a member of the forum saw his years of hard work destroyed in seconds that day.

Gary, as Jim was my godfather. The trophy was repainted and a few coats of varnish. It has pride of place in the bar.

I know Hugh can recite the multiple attempts of people to get their names on the trophy. My old man tried but never had any success. His best effort was derailing and thought they were dragging a bit so carried on with a bit more regulator. Mr GJH.

    Sorry for the thread drift.....
