Looking at RTT it appears that the train was scheduled to remain in the Arnside area so hardly an unplanned stop and I wouldn't call the Carnforth Barrow line Main either.

@Romsey since the train belongs to the business owned by JH then how does he not qualify as staff?

Annoying as it might seem, work is still allowed, and if JH was scouting out destinations and routes for Saphos it comes under this heading, and is hardly work that can be done from home.

Just to add to this, the set is set to go out next Friday to Scotland via London Euston, this time using Class 1 headcode from London

Do billionaire company owners often go out and do the market research for new product... ;):D;)

Good work if you can get it, albeit rather reinforces the one rule for the rich another for the rest image that perpetuates modern society, looking at the photos of the locos on the platform at Arnside it looks like the accommodation at the back of the train was probably on the visduct for day break and seen similar suggesting same for Glenfinnan.

I am sure Mr Hosking will be delighted with your unstinting support, as for main line I would imagine the good people of Barrow who depend on said line would not agree with you, I have heard that a few in Arnside were not happy with having a running genny car on the station all night

I think something similar happened with an Intercity land cruise in the late 1980’s on the Cambrian except it involved a class 37/4 idling all night, I don’t think it was repeated the following year.

There were much grumblings when they were running the 37's on the Cumbrian Coast and leaving them running all night in the carriage sidings at Barrow, with the track record of 37's round here I am surprised they risked switching them off at Arnside.

It's a grey area.... I doubt whether anyone in authority has considered that aspect. The old planner in me thinks that LSL are seeing how far they can push the regulations on staff conveyed on ECS.

As far as I can recall, the old (BR) ruling was staff trains and unadvertised staff stops were for the conveyance of staff to or from rostered duties. (There was a bit of a fuss and reminders to all staff on SW Division about this after the fatal accident involving the 0330 Bournemouth - Basingstoke staff train and an assisting light engine at Micheldever. It was found there were more members of the public than staff on the train.)

    Cheers, Neil

It’s obviously a company train, where the railways have a long tradition of a blurred boundary between “work” and “jolly”. It stretches the law to the limit (including the provisions of Scottish law on lockdown). It does nothing to endear Hosking to me, but is entirely consistent with his MO and general socio-political stance.

Those who dislike him will have more evidence for their views; those who support his ventures will continue to do so.

Is this the trip where the police were allegedly at one of the destinations in Scotland to discuss exactly how this activity was a valid one under Lockdown rules?

I guess it may as well go some way to explain the Saphos interpretation of the mask rules and "hospitality" last summer.

It might be worth checking nearer the time to see if this is activated. Non essential travel will still be banned on the original Jacobite start dates, I understood that it had been put back to the end of April

A West Coast News update yesterday stated that they are awaiting guidance on when then they can start and that the afternoon train would now be 12:45 off Fort William everyday except saturday which remains 14:40.

Does raise the potential for 3 trains a day as I think the 14:40 path arrives at Mallaig 15mins before the new 'mid day' path is due to leave on the return.

I read somewhere that there is local pressure for an extra service train to Mallaig which would involve reinstating the loop and second platform at Lochailort

Has West Coast got a third set of stock available to run three trains a day, and the extra on board staff and crew?

If it washes its face commercially I imagine all could be fairly easily found.

I was purely commenting on the fact that the paths seems to be allow it should it ever be considered rather than any expectation of it happening. Looking at Johnb's comment it might give ScotRail the 14:40 path for a local service which might be desirable to fill the gap between on around 12 and one at 4:20 which I think they currently are. Merely pondering.
