If those two S&D Thirds find there way to Ropley, along with one of the Brighton Brakes in store at Eastleigh, along with the 1st coach already restored, that going to be quite a decent vintage rake :)

I presume the collection of 4 wheel LBSCR coach bodies donated to the MHR a few years ago.

Yes, a third brake, a full brake, and an 1st class coach, downgraded to 3rd, the bodies apparently are in good condition, two ex pmv underframes are available , for the brake third, and the 1st class coach, the full brake is a short wheel base fully pannelled van, so in the full ness of time, if sufficient funding and manpower , can be found to restore these vintage coaches, if you add the 3 S&D coaches, thats going to be quite a useful and interesting rake for the railway,
Whats the chance of a joint MHR/ SDRT lottery fund application to restore these vintage coaches, ?

No, more someone from Hayling Island who thinks every other railway other than the Isle of Wight has got it wrong.

Again, he often has a valid point, however irritating and condescending he may often appear. The IoW is a marvellous example of how to get it right...

Realistically though, did the IOWSR have any other option but to go down the grounded body route? it was able to obtain cheaply coach bodies that were former island stock, and PMV underframes, to recreate an authentic island coach vs getting in something that never would have looked right .

I believe that it did have other options, air braked EMU centre cars were one and I think MK1 suburban coaches. It took a great deal of foresight and a can do attitude to go with grounded bodies. I am not sure if anyone had tackled a grounded body before they took the decision to go ahead.

The Tanfield might be a contender. They started with a couple of converted fruit vans and the progressed to van chassis’s with old coach bodies on them.

Did anyone else notice there's currently another thread, in this very section, which shows only too clearly what can happen on lines where no-one asks awkward questions, chucks the odd bucket of cold water, or speaks out when needed?

Bob help us all if we ever let our forum degenerate into some mutual masturb mere echo chamber.

It wouldn't actually be that much of a stretch for it to become a small green tank engine, as it used to be a small green tank engine

It looked just fine in Prussian Blue about 1 hour ago. Turn it into yet another TTTE clone and you have to be careful about where, when and how you run it.

If you are going to run it anywhere as Percy then surely the Mid Hants is the ideal place. One of the few railways that still hold regular Thomas events.

Will be interesting to see what the plans for it are. I’d imagine becoming Percy isn’t on the agenda though. Probably an overhaul and then becoming a hire loco for smaller railways.

But it was never an S&D machine though was it? As we seem to be having a livery debate what was wrong with it in NCB green?
