    Beauty is I guess in the eye of the beer holder, but Drummond designed a series of more or less ungainly-looking 4-6-0s, which shared the similar aesthetic of outside cylinders set well behind the bogie driving the middle axle; and inside cylinders set well forward driving the leading axle.

    They were called various names; "turkey" being one of the politer ones (presumably because they were seen as complete turkeys; or maybe because they gobbled coal).

    Initially, cylinders mounted behind the bogie. Also, it's an unattractive side view, proportion seems all out of kilter, to me.

    I always had and still do, have high regard for "old" handrawn 3D exploded drawings and their artists/draughtsman. Modern CAD is a lot more "easier". The illustrator in my old design office was a fine cartoonist too....many hilarious cartoons circulated about senior management and their foibles. Happy days....

    Ah yes, the Eagle. Always looked forward to getting that as a kid.

    A few Christmases ago, my sister bought me an 'Eagle Annual', not a genuine one but a modern composite reproduction. One of the useful 'how to' articles told kids how to cast their own lead soldiers . . . Definitely different days!

    I too love the traditional cutaway drawings, they are excellent, and also educational. I must say though, the CAD rendering on the P2 website almost looks like it's been made of real components! Turned brass kylchap fittings, anyone?

    All my Eagle Annuals were passed on but I’ve still got my copy of the Eagle Book of Trains compiled by the renowned C J Allen, my first Railway book

    Somewhere amongst my extensive book collection, I have a small booklet containing 7 or 8 clear cellophane pages, each leaf showing more internal detail of an EE Type 4 (class 40) diesel. It was produced in the 1960s, and I can't remember if it was an official BR publication or not. When I get time, I'll unearth it and have a look again. I don't know if this was one of a series or not, or if there were similar books covering steam locos - I've never come across another as yet.
