Wonder what will happen to it after the movie ends - with some minor modifications, you suddenly have a really convincing 1-1 scale model of a Britannia.

 

Or a version of 71000 with standard Walshaerts valve gear - 71001 Duke of Cambridge perchance?

 

Oh Fred, don't be so bloomin- reactionary. We'd lose a chance for a direct comparison between British Caprotti and Lentz* gear, or go the whole hog and give Cossart a go .... OK, maybe save that for 71002 Duke of Earl. Hang on a mo, I'm sure I've got the ten and a half million quid we'd need stashed somewhere ....

*and NO ... of course you can't compare a P2 with a Riddles Class 8 pacific. The very idea!

Given the wonders that the movie industry props departments can effect, I wonder if the best route to the desired £1.5m new-build Billinton K class / Craven 2-4-0 / Gresley V2 (delete as appropriate) is just to write a film script in which said loco design plays an integral, and operational, role. Oh, and find £150m to fund the film ...

Be careful. The film needs to avoid destruction of said prop, and to be to rivet counter standards rather than cinematic!

Some folks’ll do anything to red pen a new engine!

 

Here is a photo posted on social media of the Mission Impossible Filming on the NYMR and also three shots of where the train will end up in a quarry. Looks like they are going to do a Back To The Future III ending with the train.

Don’t spoil the ending! We haven’t seen it yet! Seriously if my missus sees any of these she won’t be happy, She’s a big M:I fan. (For some reason she always gets annoyed when I point out the NSE branding at Victoria in the first one)
