I was told they were turning it for the lady three days of its stay May 5/6/7 but that’s no guarantee that they won’t do it before that.

Interesting that the whistles are the "wrong" way round compared with the usual arrangement (the large whistle is normally on the driver's side). I wonder if this was the preferred arrangement when the Saints were built?

Many older locos had the whistles that way round. There was a good reason for that but just now I cannot recall what it was.

Don't GWR locos have a lower pitched brake whistle? Logic to me would put that on the fireman's side given that, in the early days of the railways, braking was the fireman's responsibility; and the normal whistle would be on the driver's side. Maybe it changed with the gradual option of power brakes which put the braking of the train, even on unfitted trains, back towards the driver?

Here's a special video I've made in honour of The Great Western Saint '2999 Lady of Legend'. I've decided to compile a montage of lineside shots of this immaculate engine along the route, from Bridgnorth to Kidderminster in geographical order from North to South. I hope you enjoy the video.

There are some great photo's of 2999 on here, and as GWR fan/ex Didcot volunteer I have enjoyed seeing them, but. . . . is there really nothing else happening on SVR?

Well the King & Castle has had to shut until 17th May as apparently the tables on the station concourse don't count as outside seating.

That seems to be the case as only having one open side means it counts as inside (or maybe 'not outdoors'). I believe that's the same wrt to the smoking ban as well.

It seems madness as despite the one side it’s pretty much an open space in reality, especially silly when it was fine last year...

I'm sure it was discussed elsewhere as being tied to the legislation about where smoking would or wouldn't be permitted.

    The guidance online says:

    Step 2 - from 12 April
Following the move to Step 2, outdoor areas at hospitality venues can serve customers in groups of up to 6 people or 2 households. These venues may allow customers to use toilets, baby changing rooms or breast feeding rooms located inside.

Some venues may wish to erect outdoor shelters. To be considered ‘outdoors’, shelters, marquees and other structures can have a roof but need to have at least 50% of the area of their walls open at all times whilst in use.

    (My emphasis - source: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/working...-19/restaurants-offering-takeaway-or-delivery).

I can’t understand that l, one of the two pubs in our village has put up a big tent that’s only open one side. Apparently that’s ok as it’s a temporary structure and not a building
