the Auctioneer in the car analogy is the Administrator here. He is selling on behalf of the company, and assume (although I haven't read the Ts&Cs) that it is the Administrator who is the "seller" under the terms.
s12(3) of the Sale of Goods Act is the provision that I suspect specifically applies "This subsection applies to a contract of sale in the case of which there appears from the contract or is to be inferred from its circumstances an intention that the seller should transfer only such title as he or a third person may have", which will dovetail into the Insolvency Acts.

Any claim you have in respect of lack of title has to be taken up after the event with the rump of the company (or you just carry that risk on the chin if it comes up after the event).

It will be interesting to see how long the approval process will take.

So is the £100k separate from any used to buy back stock/equipment?

Depends what the overheads are. Presumably some of the things that they want from the auction will need to be bought elsewhere if they don't get them at auction.

Apparently, they are digging up the garden as well. Items for auction include "coaches, plants and machinery".

Is it possible to donate to the present appeal other than through Enthuse?

That one jumped out at me too, but I assume it is just one more instance of reporters' skill at getting things wrong. I sometimes think they must go through special training to achieve that.

It maybe an interview given via phone/skype. It is easy enough to mishear something when typing up a recording.

Or they could of just mistyped, a spell checker wouldn’t notice an error.

A spell checker wouldn’t have noticed the error in that sentence either!

It’s fairly typical for newspaper reporters to get their facts wrong. A mixture of rushing to meet the print deadline, not checking what they’ve written properly and mainly just not really understanding what they are talking about.

I donated to the general appeal by sending a cheque made out to the LR Trust. I'm sure you could do the same and mark it "Rolling stock appeal" if you wanted it just to go towards rolling stock.
From the unofficial LR Facebook page ....... Online at https://llangollenrailway.enthuse.com and click the Donate button, or via our Facebook page. For taxpayers, the Railway can apply for 25% Gift Aid. Alternatively, supporters are invited to send cheques payable to Llangollen Railway Trust Ltd to The Station, Abbey Road, Llangollen LL20 8SN.
    Cheers,
    Ray.
    Edit: Beaten to it!

Yes, but if they actually read their own copy, with their brain turned on, one would hope that a little 'I wonder if that's right' bell would go off.

As someone who is dyslexic I will often re-read things and miss things, so I will cut them some slack. I can look at a sentence for ten minutes and not see the mistake, it will often only become visible to my eyes when someone else points it out and then my brain will see it.
