It is surprisingly hard to edit your own writing: by time you have written and rewritten a piece, you just glaze over the mistakes.

Newspapers used to have copy editors to pick up those kinds of mistakes ("plants" in the example above) but local newspaper finances have been hollowed out by the World Wide Web, to the extent that I suspect most have hardly any capacity in that field. (Traditionally, UK local newspapers made a lot of their revenue from small ads, paid for by the word or line: that business has essentially all moved online).

Building on what Tom said ... many people are still discussing the local press like they think it is still operating in the 1970s and 1980s, with full offices of journalists and editors. Online comments abound dissing local journalism. Give them some slack - if our local paper is typical, they have employed the youngest (i.e. cheapest) people, they've closed or all but closed the office (so no support from someone more experienced), the journalist is expected to write a stack of articles each day, the paper hopes that citizen journalism will fill the gaps (never a guarantee of quality), and meanwhile smug so-and-sos with nothing better to do simultaneously say they don't bother with the local paper any more, and pick faults in the writing.

I've had mistakes inserted into texts by copy editors. Often it is words like plant/plants.

In defence of copy editing it is an absolutely **** gig economy job. Piecemeal work where you are paid by the word irrespective of quality of text and most are freelancers. The whole system is geared to quantity rather than quality and turning around work as fast as possible.

"It remains too soon to speculate when re-opening might be but we are targeting the end of July or early August currently.

"We would also like to acknowledge the continuing support of the media"
If they leave it too late they will miss the summer peak time and revenue?
A poorly worded, but positive article is better than none!

Yes, but AIUI rather than the Trust leaving it too late it's to a great extent not under their control: they're relying on a third party (ORR) to agree to the novated SMS. The ORR won't (and IMO shouldn't be) influenced on safety matters by the timing of the holiday season.

But they should be influenced by the impact of their decision making timetable on the applicant's viability. That isn't to suggest skimping diligence, but to act in awareness of the impact of their actions.

I see RMB has left Llangollen today, destination unknown but looks like a sale has gone through.

Post 1452 commented that the Spa Valley had offered over £30k for it, so that would seem a likely destination.

Yes I was aware of that but that wasn’t confirmed where i saw it just the location it was seen and that it had left. Given its location was eastbound at Clacketts on the M25 logic would suggest either Spa valley or KESR, with the previous information it would make Spa Valley my favourite to be the destination.

The ORR is generally composed of reasonable people. They won't cut corners on this, but equally I would expect them to be aware of the time pressure in this case, and thus try and expedite approval if possible.

"Spa Valley Railway - 75F Loco Department

    C&W NEWS - A NEW ARRIVAL
News from our sister C&W page, courtesy of Jon Nye.

Mk1 RMB 1864 joined our fleet today, and will soon form part of our new dining train, although it will also be available for use in Set B at galas etc.

The coach dates from 1962, when it was delivered to BR Midland Region although it later ended up on the Scottish region.
We hope to have it fit for service later this year, although we will be replacing the wheelsets and undertaking various other works prior to then."

How much use is an RMB on a dining train? Isn’t it basically a snack bar? Wouldn’t a kitchen coach be more useful?

Just wondering, clearly the SVR have decided it suits their needs.
