It could be a new organisation.

    See there is something positive.

If they had shared that information in the release it would of been better surely than the one that was put out leaving many unanswered questions?

It would be interesting to see what bookings are actually like . Evidence from other lines suggest public enthusiasm is waning as more relaxation of lockdowns are anticipated over the coming weeks and the reality could be something of a damp squib restart . I presume the appeal for CRF monies has come back and is not the answer the railway was hoping for and the potential looming for a summer without access to Minehead were the crossing not complete in good time sets the scene for an interesting 2021. Still one presumes the financial health of the railway is reasonable given the mentioned spend on consultants to pursue HR matters

It would also have been an opportunity to give the hard-working P Way gang some public praise instead of just trying to give themselves a pat on the back.

I am doing some pro-bono work for a fledgling concern and they have done a bit of research into how much those chaps cost, you are lucky to find one that does not charge a four figure sum per day. Nice work if you can get it.

I see that the WSR is hosting an incoming charter on 24th July. That's excellent news for the railway. Assuming that the main line loco is replaced at Bishops Lydeard by steam from the WSR fleet I'm wondering what on earth the WSR will be able to turn out to haul a load of 9/10 to Minehead?

There are several possibilities, all of which have been used before:

    1) Up to 9 coaches is permissible for a single Manor,

    2) Over 9 coaches, double-headed steam 0r

    3) Steam with diesel assistance on either end.

So option 3 then as I'm not certain they have two spare locos as well as their Minehead to Watchet service on the day.

You are of course assuming that work on the crossing will be complete by that point .

looking at the proposed operation it looks like they expect to run to Minehead from July 1st albeit in a covid operation . I presume therefore the level crossing is sufficiently far advanced to permit this

Though you are only a washout and an unplanned failure away from not having sufficient motive power ... Four locos to cover three duties is pretty tight: doable as a one off but it means you have to do perhaps rather more arranging of washouts and minor maintenance well in advance to ensure availability on one day.

I must admit that viewed somewhat from afar, the WSR does seem to have run a pretty tight ship in recent years with their locos, with what looks like good availability such that they can deliver a decent mileage with a small fleet. Which is very much to their credit, but I think the concern must be that you can stretch and stretch - until things snap.

As I recall one year a few years ago things did snap, and there was a lot of diesel substitution. I think it was a year that an S160 was resident, but I may be conflating different events.
