Hopefully I will get to visit Helston for the first time later this year (when the sun comes out!). Looks like a railway on the 'up' and a new bit of track to do too!

You certainly don't want to visit when it is raining. Unless the brake van roof has been repaired, that is!

Work has been continuing at quite a pace to relay track towards the site of Prospidnick Halt, with over 150ft going down on Saturday despite the atrocious weather! The cutting where the platforms will go is steadily growing too, ready to receive the track when it reaches there. Updates on the FB page as always.[IMG][IMG][IMG]

This will be amazing. Now they won’t have to keep cariages in there platform. I always thought as it was coming into the station they would probably bum into the carriages that are parked there. Hopefully kilmersdon will come back to run on the new section

Yes I believe the plan (in the short term) is to have the old DMU carriages as a buffet in one road, and the service trains going in the other. There's no need to run around until there's a passing loop available at the "other end" wherever that ends up being. ATM Truthall halt isn't likely to receive a passing loop, it would be much further down the line, hopefully the far side of the viaduct!

Hopefully there will be a turn off to the sheds too. It could be quite a nice station

The latest news from the Helston Railway has revealed that a class B3 Peckett 0-6-0ST locomotive no.2000 will be working trains on the line this summer.

According to FB the Railway is planning to re-open on 7 July 2021 - subject to current restrictions and whether ongoing work to extend the line at Prospidnick alongside the car park is completed satisfactorily.

The website lists 0-4-0ST Pecketts Nos.1788 and 2100. Is Helston now thrice-blessed, Peckett-wise?

Only being assessed for overhaul at the minute, as I understand it.

As I understand it No 2100 is still in the throes of being rebuilt at Prospidnick.

Cheers for the updated info folks. Uniquely, given it's power source, the class 103 is what I'm particularly looking forward to seeing in service. A most attractive DMU design IMO. Shame about the corrosion issues that, on top of asbestos, killed a few in preservation.

Anyone know if this is a permament move or just a visit?

The locomotive is currently surplus to requirements at AVR and so the owner has decided to move it to Helston Railway.

Must get down to help with that when I get the chance next year. I'm based in Penryn for most of the year 'round (studying Geography at the University of Exeter there), so once I get my bike down I'll make sure to sign up and get cracking!
