The Cumbrian Mountain Express Saturday 22nd May 2021

With regards to your booking on The Cumbrian Mountain Express on Saturday 22nd May 2021, following the restriction lifting that has as expected taken place today, we are pleased to confirm that this tour will be running as planned.

Your ticket and final timings for the train have been despatched to you earlier today by email, if we have an email address for you, or by post.

Please find attached our guidelines regarding Covid-19, which includes advice and information for our passengers.

As it is recommended by the government that everyone currently tests themselves, with a lateral flow test, twice a week at home we would appreciate it if you could take a test a minimum of 24 hours before travel, for the safety of all. This is not a mandatory requirement for travel but is the current government advice. Tests can be ordered from https://www.gov.uk/order-coronavirus-rapid-lateral-flow-tests.

If you have any questions or concerns in relation to the Covid-19 Safe way to travel leaflet or the lateral flow tests please do not hesitate to contact us either by email at enquiries@railwaytouring.co.uk, or by telephone on 01553 661500.

    Kind regards

    The Railway Touring Company

We have no such recommendation in Wales and free LFTs are not available to the general public unless you think you have Covid. Interesting differences in advice from the devolved government.

Well I have been picking up free LFTs for the last few weeks in Wales. My work means I am increasingly meeting people face to face. Freely available in Wales from your nearest testing centre, link below. Just walk up and ask. Would seriously recommend if you are out and about more frequently now, but there were no questions asked as to why I needed them.

We're both well retired and don't go out much or mix face to face with 'strangers'. Looked on the website and they required lots of info before they'd send out LFTs. But thanks for the info. Will have to find out where our nearest Testing Centre is.

You should be able to pick one up at the local chemist, no questions asked, if you want them.

That's what I did today, no bother at all.

I note there are 10 revenue earning coaches on Saturday, so that could well mean 12 or 13 on - a performance challenge for BIL? Looking forward to it!

We have to do these tests at work every Monday. We were using the kit that just went up the nostril. Went in today and we now have to do the test that goes in your throat and then up both nostrils. Not sure if this is a panic response because of the Indian Variant but everyone ended up coughing or sneezing for most of the morning as a result of the test!
I wonder if other Rail tour operators will ask passengers to take tests before travelling?

My wife (teacher) and myself (chemist) have been doing these for months now, twice weekly, always have been both sides of throat (near tonsils) and up one nostril as far as you can get without poking your grey stuff!!

Been checking the current guidance for Wales. It hasn't changed. Kits are only available for specific groups. Retired people can't get kits unless we're showing symptoms. Wife checking today at local pharmacies.

Kits are available for volunteers, unpaid carers or those who can't work from home in Wales. However, the reality for me was that no questions were asked (all of the above would be difficult to prove in honesty).

Free test sites in Crewe and Preston seen yesterday just walk in and have it done straight away.
On the Dalesman it seems as though all stewards had LFT tests done without any prompting.

If RTT is to be believed the ECS is still at Acton and been there since 06.07. Nothing on times out of Euston, should have left a while ago.

Curious. Traksy shows that the LE move from Rugby to Euston worked; the train loco (Les Ross?) is at Euston, but the stock is indeed still at Acton.

Issues with 2 troublesome coaches in the Acton area. Not a good start to the day. <BJ>

Surely not? How long have they had to service and test them? That said, the train looks as though it is nowhere near leaving Euston 90 min after scheduled departure.

Just as well I didn’t get up at 0400 to catch the 0539 Basingstoke. Good decision for once. Now at Alresford instead
