RTT shows Queens Park, so just out of Euston.

Been told Cl33 failed on ECS and took a while to get a Cl47 up and running. Electric to Carlisle.

Shame - but understandable in the circumstances.

So not the stock that was the problem then. Thought that was odd. Running with electric to Carlisle should also recover at least an hour and there is a chance that with BIL going separately it might be possible to get close to the right path back over the S&C.

I'm sure that WC will try and make it all work given that the problem was down to them.

departed Euston 0926. I suppose you could hope for Preston 1230 Carlisle 1345 and pray the train can stay in P3.

Absolutely so. 2 1/4 hours late off Euston, but as you say, electric all the way to Carlisle (non stop?) will help. OK, the break time at Carlisle may well be cut short, but getting out of Carlisle on time for the return should be possible. Presumably BIL will use the path the train had on the way up north?

I'm assuming a leg stretch is out of the question ? RTT still showing two hours down on arrival at Carlisle ?

But RTT doesn't know the 95mph is continuing all the way. Provided they are allowed to stay in front of the late running VT it is looking like 1400 into Carlisle, so a walk up the platform is about the extent of it.

Could they not go into Carlisle and just connect 35018 at Upperby and use the curve onto the S&C ? No leg stretch but on the right path timing wise.

I think that there is an issue with a passenger train using the goods only curve - a prior inspection of the track is required.

Over Shap Summit <only> 79 down now - still not long at Carlisle though, presuming that they want to get back into their path, which is a 1424 departure off P3. Then Tornado is booked into P3 at 1433, of course.

Will the stock not need 'servicing' before starting the return journey?

I think you may also need a Network Rail MOM present. There has always been one there for the couple of tours that used it with passengers that I was on.
