Good one although it feels like the comment appears on the very thread where there is little evidence.

A good start would be for those with influence on the WSR to have a go at doing just that.

I agree with all you say. But, this topic is in danger of stifling discussion you say the forum is here for. I posted a good news item, the WSR is running trains for the public again and I posted a video from the first day. What's not to like? But all it did was to cause the debate to kick off again with all the issues some people have with the WSR. If that is going to happen when a non controversial post is made then it may result in less posts on other topics of the WSR.
I think it's time again to suggest a separate topic (eg WSR Operations) where members can post without the fear of causing the debate on WSR management to be reignited, the original topic retained for those that do wish to continue the debate.

And how many minutes would it take before the comments degenerated to the same level as can now be found on here?

I think the 5100s (one of which 9351 was rebuilt from) had a No.2 boiler and the moguls that Churchward did introduce had a No. 4, but how different are those boilers? Is there any other difference between the 9351 and the Churchward moguls?

Much as I agree with everything @Sidmouth has said in substance, I'm minded to agree with the above on this occasion. Folk posting a good news WSR story is no reason to plod the same weary arguments out again, no matter how serious they are (and I hope folk will appreciate I'm hardly a WSR apologist!) When the WSR does wrong, we tear it to pieces, and you can't complain about that, because they deserve it. But when all it is is some good news, it doesn't seem fair on the volunteers to me, even if we think those same volunteers could have done more in terms of opposing other things.

Basically, it's not a good look for us as forum users.

And now for something completely different!

A few photos taken over the last 4 weeks of progress on the replacement tender number T2061 for 7828 Odney Manor. T2061 is a standard GWR Churchward 3500 gallon tender which has already had a new front drag box and front section of frames.

Work is progressing on the fitting of the previously fabricated well tank and aligning it to the main frames. After this some of the prefabricated components for the floor of main tank have been delivered, these are now being drilled for the 100's of rivets that will follow in due course.

All the photos were taken by Steve, one of the volunteer team.

    Andy.

    1. The tender on accommodation trollies ready for lifting to put a pair of temporary wheelsets underneath.

    2. A happy team, after a day of lifting the pair of temporary wheelsets are underneath.
    2.jpg

    3. Back in the loco shed with Foxcote Manor the main frames are jacked up level, followed by lifting the well tank to set that level.
    4.jpg

    4. The cross stretchers of the well tank are drilled to align the rivet holes to the main frame holes.
    5.jpg

    5. The first batch of "flat pack" plate work for the main tank is ready for lifting on.
    3.jpg

    6. The first floor plates are moved into position ready for drilling to attach to the side angles. The timber blocks are acting as spacers where timber plank supports will eventually be fitted.
    6.jpg

    7. The last of the main floor plates are now in position, view from the rear. The floor plate across the back of the tender will now require marking out and cutting for the rounded tank corners.

The number 4 boiler barrel is 6" larger in diameter than the number 2 with a larger firebox to match but the length is pretty much the same. The 3150 series of 2-6-2t used the number 4 boiler but they were restricted to red routes rather than the blue routes of the the smaller boiler locos

I hear what you are saying, the problem we have found with a separate thread is the duplication that takes place. Even where we do have a separate thread for a specific topic (The SDJRT eviction thread), there are times where both threads end up talking about the same thing, despite our best efforts to separate the two.

You should get in touch with the forums former owner. I believe he still has the Nat Pres Headboard in is possession, I’d pay good money to see that ;):D

And no doubt my wife and I will be contributing in some way to the WSR's coffers when we arrive at Minehead on it. I'm sure that, the on board catering notwithstanding, room will be found for ice creams, and space in the bag for swag from the gift shop :):)

Perhaps because the same people hijack both threads for their own advantage. These are the same people who like each others' posts, and then claim that they have a larger following than others.

Perhaps some specific feedback/action from moderators to these same people might help?

What is this behaviour you speak of? I can't recall posters - on whichever side of whichever debate - using their number of posts and/or likes to assert status.

Are Well Tanks ony fitted to GWR 3500 gallon tenders or did other models/companies use them?

Which was about the response to two specific posts, not the posters’ statuses. Which is not obviously what you were arguing:

meanwhile , those that dared to stand up to current regime seem to be being dealt with and I use the term "dealt" with not in a positive way. This no doubt will make the acolytes happy and I'm sure they will be booking a celebratory pie and mash whilst sat static in a coach going nowhere .

now I do wonder why so few involved with the WSR stood up to support the S&D trust. Now of course they could concur with the decision , really don't care , or are too afraid to stand up , none of which reflects well . maybe it reflects a broader decline in society where principles no longer matter and as long as i'm alright thats good .

You're reading something into my post which isn't there.

People start claiming "rightness" due to a handful likes/followers,

I regard the comparison of two posts and the reactions to them as a useful but flawed indication of views.
