Looks like Lizzie is out on these Thursday and Saturday this week. Carnforth - Carlisle - Hellifield - Preston.

When you have a posh train to haul you use a posh loco.;)

Isn't it more when you have an air braked train you use an air braked loco? ;) (is there anything else at Carnforth that could pull such a train with air brakes?)

Tangmere. But that's not posh enough even if it were available.

It has hauled the VSOE as it was then, several times in 2004/5/and 6 so more posh I would say.

But does Tangmere look as imposing as Princess Elizabeth?

Beauty in the eye of the beholder I guess. My answer would be yes, although it may be no if you were talking about a Duchess.

    Tangmere?
She’s a scruffy, pig ugly, smelly, smokey, clanking beast...but I love her to bits - which she is often in, or flinging them around the Network.

Only my opinion but I think that looks awful.

So do you think Princess Elizabeth will be going down to London for the Bournemouth Belle Ralph?

No why would you think that? All I was doing was expressing my opinion that the Golden Arrow regalia is not my idea of making a loco look anything other than a circus pony.

Because if a special loco is needed for a special train, what are the options for the Bournemouth Belle as an air braked train?

I think the Golden Arrow regalia was of its time and looked better on 70004/14, although I don't think they carried the big arrow, they had a smaller one on the smoke deflectors. But my question wasn't about that.

Why bring up the Bournemouth Belle, it was the Northern Belle that was being discussed.

Don't get me wrong. I have a soft spot for Lizzie. Like Clan Line, she's one of those locos that's "always been there" since the earliest days of my train enthusiasm. The association with The Northern Belle is potentially the best thing that's happened to her in recent years and I'm looking forward to seeing pictures from today's trip and, hopefully, getting up to see her myself later in the year.
